He did not mention that the 1 to 4 shift could be fixed by a $25 mod. So the 1 to 4 shift isn't really an issue.

Can anyone go into further detail on this 1-to-4 thing? How does the car "direct" the stick? Does it just refuse to go into 2nd or 3rd?

I guess the 6 speed is not a "true" manual tranny after all. Still a sweet car though. I personally wouldn't have to worry about the 1 to 4 shifts at slow acceleration.....

Not sure, but here is a way around it apparently?

Yeah really, in a manual tranny, wtf gives that you can't shift into 2nd or third when you want?

It's to improve mileage enough to eliminate the gas guzzler tax. So lets see, you could pay the $1000 or whatever the tax is, or spend $25 to fix it later on.....

From that article:
PRICE POINTS: Base price is $51,295. Price as tested: $52,495. (Prices include delivery and "gas guzzler" tax.)

Is that modification something go what they used to say about Corvettes when this 1-4 shift feature came out: "Never, ever cut the GREEN WIRE down there on the side of the gearbox. "

The skip-shift has been around since the C4, and it physically blocks out second gear (third still works though it's hardly worth the effort) when:

1) The engine coolant is at normal operating temperature.
2) Throttle input is less than 30%
and
3) The car is moving less than 20 mph.

It's only there to keep the Corvette from getting a gas-guzzler tax, though it's still in the other LT1/LT5/LT4/LS1/LS6/LS2 applications.

The algorithm is explained in the owner's manual, and I found that once I knew this, it was easy to develop shifting habits that avoided the 1-4 skip. In around-town driving, I got to the point where I knew, by the engine note, when the car would be over 20 mph in first, and shifted thusly. Ironically, around town, I usually went with the 1-3, since 2nd was most useful for on-ramp spurts up to about 65, and a bit too short for cruising.

Not that my LS Sport doesn't drive really well, which it does, but I still ache daily for my former 02 Z28...

That's right. Hey everybody, this is my first post here. Nice Forum.

There's a 1-4 skip shift solenoid that can be bypassed by the mod mentioned above or it can be tuned out in the PCM. The PCM version is actually easier, permanent and makes the "skip shift" light stay off.

The CTS-V is one of the best things to come out of Cadillac. They just need to refine the interior ambience a bit more, then we'd have the complete package. The CTS is world-class in how it drives and handles, and the CTS-V definitely makes a statement.
