08 CTS production to begin monday. DELAYED!

A reliable source just informed me that GM wants the CTS to begin production Monday. A supplier issue has come up regarding the steering wheel. I believe he mentioned that the supplier cannot make them fast enough. So production start is delayed.

Just an FYI.

They can't build them and put the steering wheel on later? Pretty stupid! I'd start production and give 4-5 guys from the jobs bank a job....installing the wheels on the lots!

They stopped production for a wood trim steering wheel?? Why not just move wood trimmed cars out of the build plans until that is worked out?

If they are ready to start production, why cannot they not release pricing .

I do not want wood in mine, so they can start on that one

Wow, that stinks. I was looking for the wood trim option too. Any idea of the length of the delay. I had heard production was to begin on the 23rd and then I heard the 19th.

That steering wheel should only come with wood trim. I sat in a MY08 SRX with the new CTS steering wheel, and it was very blah without the wood accent. It did have a very nice feel to it though.

Re: 08 CTS production to begin monday. DELAYED!

I often have to remind myself that this is a GM supporters site rather than a basher-site.

Anyway, just because a production date is announced doesn't mean the first car off the line is going straight to a customer. There are a few weeks of ramp-up and pre production work to do. It takes time to identify and resolve even the smallest issues of production for an all-new vehicle, especially one as important as the CTS. This issue with a steering wheel is an example. Production of "saleable" units probably won't start until August.
