Re: Your favorite Pontiac of all time?
I honestly can't narrow it down to just one. I've always been a lot more of a BOP guy than a Chevy guy, so Pontiac always had a special place in my heart. I've logged many miles in Pontiacs over the years, and my first car was a Pontiac like this:
![]() Mine was a 98 instead of the 97 pictured and with a V6. Honestly, not the greatest car in the world, but when you're 16 any car you've got the keys for is the greatest car in the world. It was replaced with the 69 442 in my sig, which I still own. After a couple years I bought an S10 as a daily driver, which was replaced with this about 3 years ago: ![]() It's still my a daily car, but it's been modified a bit. Holden builds a fantastic car, and it's a muscle car in the spirit of the original GTO. These two Pontiacs have been in my family also: ![]() My Dad used to drive a Bonneville just like this when I was in high school, supercharged and fully loaded. What a treat it was to get to drive it around. It was pretty quick in its day. My Mom drives this today: ![]() Another great Holden product. Ten years on from my Dad's Bonneville, this thing destroys it in every way at the same price--120 more horses and 105 more lb-ft of torque. It's close to what my GTO was when it was stock. To me, the last car that was a true Pontiac, even though it's made in Australia. All time though, this is the car that represents Pontiac: ![]() The GTO is the car that made Pontiac driving excitement. The Firebird was a great car and I love them, but it'll always be a Camaro rebadge. The GTO is the original muscle car. All others are just following what Pontiac started in 1964. On a side note, maybe I ought to start buying Japanese cars, out of the 4 cars I've owned 2 of the brands have died while I was an owner.

Re: Your favorite Pontiac of all time?
How could I ever narrow it down to just one? I always wanted a Firebird convertible (fell in love with "kit" in Knight-Ridder (sp?). I owned a Sunbird convertible which I had a ton of fun with. Of course I still have the 2002 yellow Aztek (first brand new car out of college) which I had fun camping in on various occasions. Of course, if the styling had stayed true to the concept it would have sold a lot better. I loved the original Pontiac TransSport and tried to talk my parents into buying one, which they didn't. I just love Pontiacs, it sucks to see them go.

Re: Your favorite Pontiac of all time?
The ones I knew... 1986 Trans Am, 1992 Grand Am, 2004 Vibe.. and my favourite of them all, my 1984 Fiero. A car doesn't have to be the best in the world for you to like it... the fact that many people are passionate about even the dark Pontiac years goes to show just how important a brand can be to a company.

Re: Your favorite Pontiac of all time?
Damn tough call.
It's a close race but... Win: I'll have to go with a '64 GTO. Red of course. Place: '69 GTO (in a nice gunmetal grey colour... just like my Mommy used to drive!) Show: '70 Grand Prix 455 (metallic pea green with pine green top, wire wheels, and dual exhaust... just like my Daddy used to drive!) ![]() I bet they were a cute couple when they met... both with such terrific Pontiacs! |

Re: Your favorite Pontiac of all time?
Overall: G8
For exterior styling: honourable mentions for last Grand Prix and Bonneville. For making the world's only successful attempt at "affordable mass-produced sportscar": Fiero. For becoming legendary, establishing the brand's soul and core, and sparking desire: GTO and Firebird. For inspiring me when I was a little kind: long-forgotten 1970 Pontiac Executive |

Re: Your favorite Pontiac of all time?
There are no bad Firebirds. Personally, the 3rd generation was my favorite. The early ones were underpowered, but that was corrected. The design is just timeless.
The Fiero with the fastback. Looks like a little Ferrari. I'm starting to regret my decision not to buy a beautifully maintained '88 GT when I had a chance about a year ago. The 6000STE was a terrific car. My #1: 1989 Trans Am 3.8. Beautiful car. Killer engine.

Re: Your favorite Pontiac of all time?
First John Delorean died, now Pontiac is dead. Almost seems fitting.
I tend to favor unique cars, and have been a Pontiac fan since I was four and my uncle took me for a ride in his black Trans Am. So, my list: #5 First Gen Grand Prix specifically 1965 #4 1991&1992 Firebird/Trans Am #3 1969 GTO #2 Solstice #1 Fiero Special Mention- First Gen Tempest- Especially 1963 V8 |

Re: Your favorite Pontiac of all time?
You know that Pontiac back then had such a "grandpa car" reputation that GM very seriously considered dumping the brand back in the mid fifties as they thought they could never manage to get rid of that 'old geezer' stigma and image...
The '59 Bonneville did fix it, and Pontiac turned from what Buick currently is to a credible performance brand in a few short years. ![]() |
