Where is Pontiac's ashes in all this?

Ok, so we all know that GM/Auto Tack Force has killed our beloved Pontiac. Where is the Urn with the remains? Does it reside with the New or Old GM. I know the site has it listed with Saturn, Hummer and Saab, but these are up for sale where Pontiac is not. Does that lead me to believe that Pontiac's ashes will go with the New GM were it could be reborn down the road?(diff thread altogether.) Or do the ashes go with old GM which means they should be for sale to pay debts right?

I've been following pretty closely but have not heard a definitive answer on this. I'm thrown for a loop because of the giant "not for sale sign" on the Arrow Head (It isn't a freakin Dart, never has been a Dart, and when the person running the division refers to it as a dart it kills me. Last time I checked there were no Pontiac Indians running around with blow guns. I'm pretty sure they all used Bows and Arrows like all the other Indians.) And if you go back far enough you will actually find an Indian head on the front of the car, not an African tribesman.

Sorry the Dart thing really gets me. Shows how out of step the people running Pontiac really are.

I'm pretty sure it's staying with Old GM until it goes out of business. Who gets the rights to the intellectual property is beyond me. Probably New GM.

I think that leaves the door open, but I wouldn't hold my breath. Maybe in some future if/when GM is profitable and growing.

If the name was given to the old GM, aka Liquidation Motors, it may have ended up being bought by someone who would have marketed some sort of vehicle under the name.

I'd rather it stay the property of "new" GM and hope for a future revival.

Does this mean "new" GM also holds the IP for Oldsmobile as well?

Re: Where is Pontiac's ashes in all this?

i could see gm bringing pontiac back in 2012ish, as a specialty brand like they originally planned. have maybe a sporty boosted coupe with a v8 option, and maybe a sedan, based off the new commodore platform by then, trans am and a grand prix perhaps?. it would get people excited, and would fit perfectly into buick/gmc dealers

only problem is, how many brands have been resurected? it doesnt look good

Pontiac is going the way of Olds, Plymouth, and the dinosaurs. If GM, wants to start another brand in the future, they will more than likely use a new name.

The only ones that i can think of are Maybach and Mini, but Mini never really went away. Maybach is widely regarded as a failure.

We actually don't know that...
The seeds of Pontiac's death were sown by Rick and Lutz about 3 years ago when the first decided that the performance division needed a Cobalt clone and a really bad copy of the Aveo... and then last summer when they announced that Pontiac would be a "Non-core Niche brand" with one or two models.

Non-core Niche Brand is GM code for "dead"

Pontiac was not killed by the auto task force... it was killed by GM management.

Now with Zeta being dead and Alpha on life support... Pontiac, like Oldsmobile will never return...

If they don't revive Pontiac and launch a stunning new Firebird (my perennial dream) I wish they'd at least release pics of any Firebird designs they'd been working on.

Re: Where is Pontiac's ashes in all this?

Let's set one thing straight. The board of directors back in August 2008 voted to kill Pontiac. Note: this was before the gov't got involved with GM. The whole Pontiac would be a niche brand was all PR talk to help ease the public into GM shedding 4 brands all at once.

Re: Where is Pontiac's ashes in all this?

Pontiac is still here and still selling cars...Pontiacs are still being manufactured...
Pontiac was murdered by the old GM...and will be buried by the new GM
