It was up until about 10 years ago. Until that point, Saturn was unique and was different, reliable etc., and could use its own methods and buy its own parts etc, but it wasn't making any money. Under Stemple (I believe) it was announced that Saturn would have to buy and operate like any other division. Shortly thereafter began the demise of Saturn until about 2005 or so, when Lutz revived the divison (and all of GM for that matter) but Saturn is just another division, like BuicK, Ponti, Cadi, or Chevy. So to put it bluntly, Saturn is just another GM division using std GM engines, platforms and components.

I see no reason why GM dealers can't service these vehicles.

One thing I can tell you, and I can't believe that most shops are not this way. When a challenge is placed in our laps we in the shop gather together and figure it out. All the Saturn service information is in the computer from 1998 and up and the lack of special tools has never stopped us before. Take it to a dealer they will get it done!
