Saturn Warranty Question.

Okay, so I bought a Brand New Saturn just over two weeks ago. My question now is who is my warranty through? If I go to Canada will I still be able to go to any GM dealership? If the "Penske Saturn" closes will my warranty be honored through any GM dealer or will it be worthless because it was through Penske. Thanks.

Re: Saturn Warranty Question.

I don't think Penske is taking over the Saturn GM warranties, is he? That would be silly. I'm pretty sure, you can just go to any GM dealer in the US or Canada but I have not seen that in wirting and you might want to get that directly from GM. They have a number that you can call for those sorts of questions. Sorry, I don't have it to give to you, though.

Re: Saturn Warranty Question.

I don't think that will work.

"Any" GM dealer is not going to have the tools or the training to work on an Astra.

And they sure won't have any parts.

The Astra is a Delta car. They'll have what they need and have the means to get what they need if they don't have it. Saturn owners in Canada will have to take their Saturns to GM dealers soon, that's just the way it goes. Saturn Techs have the exact same training as any other Mr. Goodwrench Tech.

Re: Saturn Warranty Question.

I've been at a Buick/GMC(used to be Pontiac) dealer for 15 years.

We sell no model in common with an Astra. We have no tools/parts/training on an Astra. Our training currently stands at 97%.

Re: Saturn Warranty Question.

So where will I take my car once Saturn is Penske? I'm still confused on that I assume a Saturn dealer still. But, if Saturn goes under where would I take my car? Or would I even have a warranty left?

The official instruction is to take it to any other GM dealer. Mr. Critical will just have to figure out how to work on them. That is what we have been told here. Saturn of Windsor closed ysterday, and any Saturn owners in the area have been instructed to go to Gus Revenberg Buick, GMC.

REPORT: Penske to Close All Canadian Saturn Dealers

Yeah, but I'm not in Canada. Does that make a difference?

Re: Saturn Warranty Question.

Went to our tool room today which has EVERY GM essential tool we are required to have and looked at the inventory log.

No Astra specific tools.

Checked with parts dept to see what parts they might stock to fit an Astra. We had oil filters and air filters.

If your Astra breaks down and GM thinks we're putting you in a loaner vehicle for 2 weeks while essential tools are ordered plus training classes become available to work on the car, both of you are nuts.

You'd best be finding out who used to be a Saturn dealer and get yourself towed there.

I can see GM on the phone with the dealer trying to convince him to make that investment....

No Idea. I would think that Gm would have you take it to the nearest Saturn retailer if one exists and if not, another GM dealership. But you'd have to ask GM to be sure.

Well I can't see GM telling Saturn owners with warranty claims to go to the nearest "used to be a Saturn" dealer and have them fix it and just send GM the bill, either. Can you? Cars out of warranty, sure it might be a good idea to stay there after Penske owns it, but I'm pretty sure GM wants as many old Saturn owners to stay with GM and by sending them to a non-GM dealer for service, is not a good way to sell cars.

I honestly wouldn't have bought the car if I knew that I was going to be screwed around like that you know?

Then please explain how many...many people have had repairs done after 3/36 expired at local garages? I have for sure and none of them ever complained about not stocking all tools you're talking about?

Now think about just how much better equipped a non-Saturn GM dealership is than a local garage. GM will stock these dealerships at least regionally because there could be a class-action otherwise. Corporations understand liability very very well.

Here's an idea, why don't you just call your local GM dealer?

Well now that the Penske deal is dead, the GM dealers will have to step-up.

If the Penske deal had gone through, I could see where GM would reimburse Saturn-Penske for warranty repairs, or it may have been part of the deal.

Saturn was it own animal, while it did share platforms with many other GM cars, the Saturn Parts Catalogs, Part Numbers, and Warehouse were for the most part, separate and unique.
