Saturn Outlook or Mazda CX-9?

Looking at both the Saturn Outlook and Mazda CX-9, both are sharp looking and practical... we'll be in the market for one of these crossovers next year. Which would you pick?

Re: Saturn Outlook or Mazda CX-9?

I would pick the Outlook.
There's something I just don't like about the entire front end of the CX-9.
HOwever, with the Outlook, it's too "busy" around the C-pillar with an odd triangle shape that really bugs me, and the mis-colored HVAC readout screen. But those I can live with... not an entire front end.

Re: Saturn Outlook or Mazda CX-9?

I've seen both, checked out the Mazda, and I've been inside the Outlook. Drove a Aura XR to check out the 3.6 and 6-spd Auto and gosh they are nice and refined. I say go with the Outlook, you won't be disappointed.

Re: Saturn Outlook or Mazda CX-9?

Clearly the CX-9 has a very womanesque look about the front and rear. To me it almost looks exclusively like a female's car. Everytime I see a CX-9 on the street I get the urge to drink tea out of a brass rimmed floral motif printed mug with an extended pinky. The Outlook has a more rugged and aggressive look and is less dainty-like. If were you I would get the Outlook.

Igor Yes maybe I'm talking about the CX-7. For the record, the RX-8 is no looker either. I would have left the comment out you made about how these crossovers were inspired by the RX-8. The styling IMO is dated and uninspiring. The rotary engine was clearly a mistake. Mazda would have done better placing a gerbil on a treadmill up under the hood. I rarely see any RX-8s running around town and I believe the styling and unreliable engines may have played a role in their unpopularity. I've seen better lookin' things stuck to the bottom of my shoe . Those are not sexist comments I just merely implied one of the two cars look more like a grocery getting soccer mom mobile than the other and that rule still applies to the CX-9.

yes, but the floral porcelain and raised pinky comment was uneccesary - soccer mom and grocery getter comment is fine in my book - the other is not.

and the OUtlook looks like just a bigger version of a grocery getter - if you check the dimensions and specs, you'll see the Lambdas were benchmarked on the Sienna - what does that tell you about their purpose?

Re: Saturn Outlook or Mazda CX-9?

Well, seeing that the Outlook is isn't even out yet, I'll reserve judgment until I see the car for myself. But in the meantime, I happen to drive by a Ford-Mazda dealership, and stop in just to burn some time. I check out the MX-5, the 5i, and the 3. I must say, the Mazda 3 is not a bad looking car. Especially the hatchback version.

Then the dealership just receive shipments of the new CX-9. The outer perportions is a mix-mash of 5i and RX-8 all mix together. But what strike me the most about the car is the interior. The interior is best I'll seen from Mazda in a long time. Everything seems ergonomically correct, from the placement of the buttons, to the cup holders.

Pretty nice, if you ask me.

Re: Saturn Outlook or Mazda CX-9?

I like the interior of the CX-7/9, but the exteriors really bother me. Up front they seem edgy and agressive and then it just falls apart on the sides and rear, becoming very curvy.

I wasn't sure I liked the Outlook until I started seeing real world pictures, which look great. As it is now though we might be moving from a Suburban to an Acadia.

Re: Saturn Outlook or Mazda CX-9?

As much as I like the CX-9, I would probably go with the Outlook. They both look good inside and out, but there are a lot of small details on the Outlook that boost it above the CX-9 in my opinion. An example would be the second row seats, and how they fold very far forward (further than most 3-row vehicles) and don't expose any hardware. Plus it has more power with similar (maybe better??) gas mileage.
