I have a few extra bucks

hanging around. And i want to get something for my car. Im thinking a cold air intake. HAHA I know. Its stupid and pointless but they do add a little something to the car. In and around, what HP gain would i get if any at all?

Re: I have a few extra bucks

Depending on the car and the design of the intake, usually it can be anywhere from 2-20'ish, the upper end being if the stock design was really bad and you also had custom tuning done afterwards with the new setup.

Otherwise, a lot do actually give a bit crisper throttle feel, and even if not, there's usually just a more vocal air sucking sound that was originally muffled by OEM. Don't expect much, but the tiny improvements are usually still nice.

Re: I have a few extra bucks

is this for the sunfire? if so then alot of people go with the aem or k&n intakes for the eco motor. they normaly can get 5 or so hp out of it. and a cool sound also. the mpg will get a little better to if you dont keep smashing the gas to hear the intake

In MY opinion, it's really somewhat pointless if you don't plan on adding headers/cat back exhaust...eventually.

Put in in the bank and get something out of it. If you want to throw away money, wait a year or two when you have to fix something on it.

Re: I have a few extra bucks

A wise decision: don't spend money on a perfectly good car. You will not get that money back. Cars lose value faster than pretty much anything you can buy.

Just take care of the car you own.

Now...aside from that.
This is for the Escalade?

What do you do when 400 horses isn't enough....

Cold air intakes usually add little in horsepower or efficiency without a better exaust, but if you are into that, then go for it.

I believe that's his daddy's. He owns a Pontiac Sunfire.

Re: I have a few extra bucks

It's kind of pointless and a waste of money since you most likely won't even feel the difference. Why not uprgrade something in the interior like the audio system or something instead?

Re: I have a few extra bucks

Not too sure on how much RWHP you'd gain, but you will get a crisper throttle response and maybe an increase in fuel economy not to mention a nice hissing sound. The biggest thing with a CAI is that it rids the intake of the cluster**** of restrictors, bellows, silencers or whatever you wish to call them. To give a round figure, expect no more than 3 or 4 rwhp. You should be able to tell a difference though by the seat of the pants measurement.

Someday you'll think differently. By then you'll be kicking yourself in the pants for all the stupid money decisions you've made in your past. You'll try and tell your son the right thing he should do and he probably won't listen either.

Save it for retirement. Or to pay for heathcare that keeps going up 15% a year.
