The Firebird Thread

Thought it was time for a thread just for the Firebird fans (like the Camaro thread) - so they don't feel the need to hijack every GTO thread and start flame wars.

In this thread, the Firebird Lives!

I test drove a black Trans Am back in 1999 or so when they had that awesome "The Muscle Car Lives" commercial and wish I had bought. Went with the Bonneville instead, and can't say I regret that, but still, would've been nice to at least have gotten a V6 'bird as a daily driver. I mean, they were selling for $13,999 NEW at a dealer west of Houston, and got decent fuel economy with the 3800.

Re: The Firebird Thread

My uncle owns a 81 Turbo T/A like the one in the add. Very cool car and only a few problems like poor window/t-top seals and slight engine gremlins. Needless to say, he is a Smokey and the Bandit style redneck.

I loved my 2001 Firebird. Sold it in May 2006 because I got sick of not driving during the winter months up here in NY and still making a monthly payment on it.

I used to get 28-32 MPG Highway with it and 22-25 MPG City all the time. It was also a very good daily driver. I could actually make Lowes/Home Depot or even grocery runs with it by putting the back seat down and keeping the back hatch popped slightly if need be!

Weren't those commercial the frickin bomb?!?!?!?! I downloaded the two off of YouTube last year and made MP4's out of them so I could watch them anytime I wanted.

Re: The Firebird Thread

Well though I drive a BMW, I am a "Firebird Fool," and apologies to those who are offended whenever folks like me speak our minds. I welcome the different points of views because it makes the discussions interesting. Any way, I'm looking for a '78 or '79 T/A to restore for a daily driver. Just purchased a white '69 Firebird RA 400 Convertible in Alabama. Supposedly, it is one of only 67 produced it 1969. Looking forward to restoring it too.

It is surprising what you can fit into a Firebird trunk when you let the seats down in back. When my dad and I went dove hunting last year we squeezed both our clothing bags, boots, athletic shoes, two 20 gauge shot guns a huge case of ammo for each of us, an icechest filled w/ 24 cokes, our utility belts, and some other stuff all with the trunk lid shut. Many people act like just b/c they can't fit the Mall of America in the trunk that it is useless.

Even more surprising is what you can DO in the back of a Firebird with the seats down.

Re: The Firebird Thread

Figured I'd give links to Firebird commercials of the past. Its nice seeing commercials that are promoting the car and not some damn financing scheme or rebates.

Re: The Firebird Thread

Wow, isn't THAT the truth!

It seems GM has cut back on those commercials quite a bit lately and gone for the wonderful $XXX/month for YY months @ Z.zz% APR!!!!!!

Re: The Firebird Thread

GM was foolish to discontinue the car. I would love to see what a 2008 Trans-Am would look like with Pontiac's new more modern design and better engines... Ford was smart to go a completely new direction with the Mustang and I would have rather GM did the same with the Firebird, instead of discontinuing it.

I personally feel that Firebirds are nicer and more refined than their Ford counterparts. Just wish they'd stayed in the game instead of yielding the market to Ford. And now Dodge is jumping in with the Challenger! Maybe if the Camaro is a huge hit, they'll reconsider Firebird.
