    DEX-COOL Question

Should I use straight DEX-COOL or is it ok to top off with regular antifreeze?
My Saturn Aura has DEX-COOL in it now.

    Re: DEX-COOL Question

I think you would need to off with a 50/50 mixture of dexcool and water. But don't quote me on this. I seem to remember reading this somewhere but I'm not a 100% sure.

    Re: DEX-COOL Question

You should use Deathcool or equal brand coolant only.

    Better safe than sorry!

DO NOT use the regular green antifreeze.............

    Re: DEX-COOL Question

ALthough some indicate they will mix with anything, I'd still use Dexcool (50/50 mix) to top it off. Don't spend the extra money buying premixed, you have water at home.

Pre-mixed stuff is awesome. I remember a big rant by someone (not on this forum) about pre-mixed coolant. The bottles of regular and pre-mixed both cost the same and the guy went nuts about how stupid people had to be to buy pre-mixed.

I like to cut my coolant with Perrier so that my vehicle has a more premium experience.
Research is what I am doing when I don't know what I am doing.

    Re: DEX-COOL Question

I always bought the Prestone premixed coolant when my Grand Prix was loosing coolant and eventually blew out the block heater plug (dealer's fault since it started leaking after flush). If you want to mix it yourself, I heard you should use distilled water instead of tap water.

    Re: DEX-COOL Question

They say you can use the yellow antifreeze (Prestone all makes and models) but not the green antifreeze. I use to buy distilled water to mix with it but R.O.(reverse osomosis or purified) water should also be fine.

    Re: DEX-COOL Question

Do not mix dexcool with regular coolant. Top off with dexcool.

If you want to use regular coolant, fine. But flush the entire cooling system completley to remove all dexcool first.

    Yes, distilled water is recommended.
