    Window Cleaning Solution

    Hey y'all,

Does anyone know what the best window cleaning solution would be?

This weekend I purchased a bucket and squeegee to keep in the garage to wash the vehicles windows with when they get really dirty. What sort of solutions do the gas stations use? Is it just a jug of windshield washer fluid? Should I mix my own fluid? Right now I just have water with some liquid cleaner and it seems to get the windows clean but I think it leaves a bit of a film on the windows.

    Thanks!

Calgary this time of year is a bit chilly for this solution, but for me the old standby works the best: vinegar and water.

The gas stations use alcohol-based mixtures that are virtually the same thing as WWAF. Some of these include a repellent that keeps the window shiny and makes it more resistent to residue and grime.

Stoners Invisible Glass is a pretty good automotive window cleaner. Here's a pic:

It also comes in an aerosol can.

I keep a spray bottle filled with windshield washer fluid in the garage and use it year 'round on my windows.
Cheap, effective, and it doesn't freeze.

80 proof vodka and white vinegar, mixed 50-50.

If you keep getting streaked windows, drink the solution.

80 proof?? That's too weak! I prefer a shot of Polish spirytus rektyfikowany.

Well, tough guy, you can use Everclear if you like.

Just watch for sparks, I'm not going to visit you in the burn unit.

I also am a fan of invisible glass.
But here are some tips. it really isn't the product, it is the technique.
You can start w/ newspaper, but remember NOT to use it the inside of any tinted windows, it will scratch.
Next be sure to use numerous micro fiber cloths, and use one to wash, another to dry. Another hint, clean the outside w/ horizontal motions, and the inside w/ vertical motions, or vice versa. This way, if you find flaws in your cleanup job, you know what side needs correction!
    Cheers!

Everclear is more like it. I've only had that once though on my 18 or 19th birthday. I prefer Spirytus, same proof (190-ish) but I trust that stuff because it comes from my motherland.

I actually learnt the opposite direction technique on either side of the glass from a girlfriend many years ago. It is such a simple thing to consider but it's amazing how easily it can be overlooked.

I use either vinegar and water or methylated spirit (ethanol) on newspaper - I don't have tinted windows. At the start of winter I use an anti-fog glass cleaner that we use for safety glasses. Our winters are not severe though.

Oh yeah, I have done newspaper before. It does a great job. Just in case anyone is wondering, it's the ink that does the trick. It acts as a sort of polish.
