Where have all the GTO's gone ??
I believe I have found the retirement home for used GTO's. Labor day weekend I was in Pittsburgh......and I saw more GTO's than I have ever seen in my usual travels within Fla and Cali. Saturday there must have been a dozen parked at the Pitt and Pirates games......stadiums next to one another.
Maybe they migrated there to join all the Camaro SS'. The 'Burgh has always been a haven for American muscle back to the Yenko days. |

Re: Where have all the GTO's gone ??

Re: Where have all the GTO's gone ??
It's true I was in Pitts in May-June and went to the PNC Park and next to Heinz Field. I also can confirm that there was an unusual (to me) amount of GTO's in that city.

Re: Where have all the GTO's gone ??
I see the same gray GTO around Huntsville all the time. It is sad that the first time I saw one my reaction was "Who the hell put two-tone leather in a Cavalier?" Sorry. That boring exterior did that car in IMO.

Re: Where have all the GTO's gone ??
Agreed the GTO had everything else right. Big V8 LS1's for the initial run then LS2's after 05, Decent interior, RWD, and loads of goodies. But in the end the plain, dull, boring exterior proved to be the one thing that kept it from ever becoming the hit that Pontiac hoped for.

Well, as a proud modern GTO owner, I am compelled to comment. If you think the GTO is boring, you must wear blinders to tolerate those fleet all-stars you drive.

GTO had a three year run for Pontiac and then died due to lack of interest.

Re: Where have all the GTO's gone ??
Like I said in my last post the Modern GTO had everything else right (RWD, Big V8 etc) but the look of the exterior was the one thing that Pontiac dropped the ball on. Other than that It was a good car.

The GTO was only planned for a 3-year run, as it doesn't meet current U.S. crash standards. It didn't die from a "lack of interest". I like my GTO, and if you ever got out and about to car gatherings, you'd find that the last-generation GTO's still attract plenty of interest and attention. I still get compliments on mine anywhere I drive it. There's more to a car than how it looks (just like there's more to a car than how much HP it makes)...those who couldn't look past the exterior of the GTO to own one missed out on one of the best cars GM has ever sold in the U.S...and now you're going to have to shell out $40K+ to own a V8-powered, 2-door GM coupe when the Camaro SS hits the streets. |
