What are some cars that you hated but eventually grew on you?

What are some cars that you saw spy shots of or at debut at auto shows and think "this is a horrible looking car and I hope this thing flops more than the Aztec" but eventually the design or idea grows on you?


For me:
Nissan Juke (looked like an insect in the official pictures, but when I first saw it on the road, I thought it was the most futuristic looking SUV out there. Not to mention I love the small nimble size of it)

Buick Encore (thought it was completely unnecessary and looking too butch to be a Buick, but the more pictures I see of it, the more I think it looks like a classy micro-SUV)

Chevrolet HHR (when it first debuted, I instantly saw it was a copy of the PT Cruiser. But then I saw more pictures of it and realized it's a great SUV alternative and actually was saving up to get one until gas prices soared)

Don't know why, but the last generation 5-series has sort of grown on me. Didn't like the styling when it was in production, but now think it's a clean car. Maybe it's because the current one is such hideous, fat monstrosity.

2012 BMW 3 Series, all Ford Trucks, and most new Lexus products.

I've somewhat warmed up to the 3er only in M Sport guise, but I still am not feeling Ford's truck design language. The new Lexus ES looks nice in the real world.

Fourth generation Camaro and Firebird. At the time, I wasn't fond of the long overhangs and general proportions: it looked a bit bloated. But, when I see a clean one now -- especially a Z before they changed the front end or a Firebird Formula without the scoops and wings -- with a bigger wheel/tire combination, they turn my head. I think it's two things. First, bigger diameter wheels make the overhangs look proportionally smaller and help make the car look more muscular and less spherical. And, there just aren't too many clean ones in nice shape, which means they really stand out. I have a funny feeling that third and fourth gen cars are starting to reach the end of their depreciation curve and may be worth more in a decade then they are now!

I have always liked these cars ever since they first came out. It was one thing to see a picture of these cars in a magazine or a newspaper, but a whole other thing to see one out in the wild on the road. I'll never forget the first time I saw a new (and just introduced 93 model) 4th generation F body on the road (a red Firebird) I was awestruck because I thought the car was so futuristic looking.

As for cars I initially hated, I don't think that any of them have grown on me. After all these years, the 1996 - 2007 Ford Taurus and first generation Ford Focus (2000 - 2007) are still hideously ugly.

The early 2000's 7, 5 and 6 series. When the 5 gen Camaro showed up I was against retro styling but seeing and riding in the ZL1 truly won me over.

I hate Fiats. They're WAY too small. If I were a human, I wouldn't fit.

VW Golf (aka Rabbit). For years I didn't see the appeal. The Brits adore them. I always thought the Ford Focus was a much better car.

However, they've grown on me overtime and having driven a GTI, I appreciate them as a good, fast hatch.

Oddly enough, I didn't like the 2011 Regal at all when it debuted.

I remember the dealership received its first, and it was a terrible color. I got out of my Astra and was surprised that the Regal didn't seem to offer any additional space for being a larger car.

After a while of course, it has grown on me and actually became one of my favorite cars from GM...I'm sure the turbo option helped.
