What does "AUX" on the dashboard mean?

I was driving my dad's 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe when I noticed that on the dashboard, it said "CD/AUX". What does "Aux" mean? I noticed that it doesn't appear on my brother's 2003 Pontiac Grand Am or my mom's 2007 Mitsubishi Eclipse

AUX means Auxiliary Input. Basically if it's in AUX mode, then you have an alternative form of music storage plugged in, like an iPod or satellite radio.

There should be a plug somewhere where you can plug in an auxiliary input device such as an mp3 player, laptop, etc. to play through the car's speakers. That is, of course, the option is actually installed on the car.

I'm looking at a 2003 Pontiac Vibe, and I noticed that it says CD/Aux. Where is the Aux located in this car? Or in the 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe?

My LaCrosse had a Band button without a DVD player and there was no AUX jack to be found. However, that radio is capable of have an aftermarket jack added without further modification to your sound system. Would still be over $100 to get it done at a shop. I'm pretty sure it was meant for the optional dealer installed headrest DVD players that are offered.

The Vibe doesn't have it. It's not even possible to install it on the factory stereo. I'm not sure why the Delco units in the Vibe had that printed on them, but for some reason they did.

Usually you have to pull out the actual radio and the aux ports are on the back (older models like my 2001 GMC Jimmy have that) it was put there for the optional cd changer but if I remember correctly, they are just standard sound ports (like on a tv)

Our 2005 Tahoe doesn't have an aux input.

If this is the case, how would I play my iPod in the Vibe if I actually get one? Not that it's important, but it would be pretty nice.

An FM transmitter, a hard wired FM modulator, or the best solution, an aftermarket head unit.
