Video: Porsche 911 GT2 vs. Corvette ZR1

The English chaps over at AutoCar got the chance to put two of the greatest modern sports car ever made in a head to head competition. In one corner weighing in at 3175 pounds is the Porsche 911 GT2 powered by a 530 HP twin turbo flat six sending 505 lb-ft of torque exclusively to the rear wheels.
Representing the good old U.S. of A. is the greatest affordable super car ever made the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 with a 638 HP supercharged 6.2 Liter small block V8 under the polycarbonate window in the forward facing hood laying the power down through a pair of 335 series 20 inch rubber. So who is your money on? Germany or America?

Check out the video to see for yourself.

Re: Video: Porsche 911 GT2 vs. Corvette ZR1

My grandmother could have launched the ZR1 better than that !! But on cars of this class the tires are always a major factor and the run flats just don't get it. Plus as noted $92,000 will buy a lot of replacement tires.

Re: Video: Porsche 911 GT2 vs. Corvette ZR1

These must be the only guys on the planet that can't get the ZR1 to lock down properly. Every article I've seen has had the ZR1 around 3.3s and just over 11s in the 1/4. Pathetic.

This is Autocar, You remember how they botched that Z-06 test. They are idiots. They stage manage it so that Corvette always looses.

Re: Video: Porsche 911 GT2 vs. Corvette ZR1

This test makes no sense what so ever, in other test such as the Motor Trend test where the lined up the ZR1, Ferrari 599, Nissan GTR and the GT2 it was a completely different story. Yes the GTR and the GT2 got the best launch with the GTR having AWD and the GT2 having its weight over the rear. However after all of the cars hooked up the Corvette and Ferrari caught up to the other two fast and started to walk on them with the Corvette up front.

Im trying to wrap my brain around this as to why this tends to happen everytime when a European car mag compares an American car like the corvette to a European car.

Has Top Gear yet to drive the ZR1 on their track?

Haven't seen anything about them getting it on their track, and its not on the BBC Top Gear Site. I do know they've tested it on the road in the US (and Clarkson liked it ) so I'm sure they'll do it as soon as possible. The new season recently started in the UK so I bet it'll show up sometime this season.

That was their excuse, but when you look at the replay launch through the GT2's window, you see the nose lurch down and absolutely NO wheelspin. Meaning he bogged it at launch.

Maybe next time he could raise the revs a bit. The tires are pretty big out back.
