I am looking for a project. Can anyone list all the turbo (or supercharged) cars of the past?

European turbocharged cars sold in North America during the eighties:
-Audi 5000 Turbo
-Saab 900 Turbo
-Volvo 740 Turbo
European turbocharged cars sold in North America during the nineties:
-Audi A4 1.8 20V Turbo (B5 model - 1995 to 2001)
-Saab 9000 Turbo
-Volkswagen Passat 1.8 20V Turbo (B5 pre-facelift model - 1998 to 2002)
-Volvo 850 T5
-Volvo 940 Turbo
Supercharged?
Hmmm...let's see...
Any Mercedes-Benz with a "KOMPRESSOR" badge and producing a whine sound.
Pontiac Grand Prix (1989-90 Turboed)
Ford Thunderbird Turbo Coupe (1983-88)
Super Coupe (1989-94)
Of course there are assorted Buick turbos from the late 70's/early 80's....am not sure though if those would be quite what you're looking for
Here are Ford's offerings off the top of my head:
2.3 4-cyl turbo (140-190hp depending on car/year):
-83-88 Thunderbird Turbo Coupe
-83-86 Cougar XR-7
-84-86 Mustang SVO
-79-? Mustang Cobra
-Merkur XR4Ti
The Ranger uses a non-turbo version of the same engine. There was never a turbo Ranger from the factory, but it is a fairly straightforward and popular swap.
There was also a 2.2 turbo Probe GT from 88-92, as well as a supercharged 3.8 V6 in the 89-95 T-Bird SC and 89-90 Cougar XR7.
I used to have an 88 turbo T-Bird. They are great cars, especially with the manual transmission. And in spite of all the horror stories about blown engines and self-destructing turbos (thanks to all the POS turbo Chryslers), the 2.3 is pretty much bulletproof.
Buick Grand National, is the first one that comes to mind.
1980 and 1981 Turbo Trans Am 4.9 (absolute garbage btw)
1989 Turbo Trans Am (20th anniversary Edt) same engine as the Buick GN

Amen to that, I had a 88 TC w/ 5-speed also.Originally Posted by rearden82

And that is due not to it haveing just the Buick GN engine, those T/A's has the ultra rare Grand National GNX engine, not the regular GN engine! Now the 80-81 Turbo T/A you might be able to find, but they have 301ci V8's that werent know for being the greatest performers, or very reliable for that matter!Originally Posted by Firebird00
I read an old magazine review of an 80 Turbo T/A. I don't know which is worse- That it did 0-60 in about 11 seconds, or that it was the fastest in the comparison test of "sports cars".
It seems like you'd have to try pretty hard to put a turbo on a V8 and make it that much of a dog. I'm sure that it would be easy to remove the emissions crap and bump up the boost, but that still amazes me. That must have been a horrible time to be a car enthusiast.

AWD + turbo = sex
Nobody likes the Turbo Trans AM
It had 210 horses, 4.9 litre V8 (Pontiac 301).
This made it the most powerful car on the US market, more than Vette's and smog-choked Ferraris...
Of course, Saab made the best turbo cars and they are more fun ;>
