Toyota Venza: What if GM made the Nomad?

With the Toyota Venza being out. Which is a station wagon. What if GM made the Nomad? What would the US automotive landscape look like?

Re: Toyota Venza: What if GM made the Nomad?

The same, Chrysler made the PT Cruizer, GM made the HHR, nothing changed. Chrysler made the Caravan, it all changed. I don't see the Venza as being a pivotal vehicle unless GM released a truly stylish version with features that people want to leave their usual boring drab sedans. Its been done with little success. But then again, maybe I'm totally wrong because I thought this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isuzu_VehiCROSS was totally awesome.

I don't get the Venza. It's a Camry wagon cum "SUV/crossover". The thing is they already have the Highlander, wouldn't a slim down traditional wagon be the correct product instead of trying to go after essentially the same market niche

Re: Toyota Venza: What if GM made the Nomad?

I don't think the Vezna is going to sell in the numbers that would be needed to be considered a "game changer".

That is disappointing because it is probably a good vehicle, but I suspect they will find out they produced another B9 Tribeca, only worse. It's as ugly as the old Tribeca was on the outside, but unlike the Subaru which improve when you got behind the wheel, the Vezna just gets worse.

I won't question the quality, as it's likely top notch, but unfortunately, high quality and high style don't always go hand in hand.

Re: Toyota Venza: What if GM made the Nomad?

I loved both Nomad concepts and felt then that GM really dropped the ball by building neither. But then again, GM rarely builds its concepts that receive wide praise as did the Nomads, the Sixteen, the Velite, etc. I think the Nomads would have galvanized sales and positive public perception of the Chevy brand.

The recent Nomad concept was closer to a Mini Cooper than the Toyota Venza.

It was twice the size of a mini.
GM is almost incapable of making a small enough car in north america.

The Venza will be every bit the "game-changer" the Pacifica was for Chrysler.

Yeah, I said it. A few people will be happy as clams to be the first to get one, then sales will go down every year after introduction until the whole model will be dropped.

Re: Toyota Venza: What if GM made the Nomad?

I had envisioned a Venzaesque Chevy wagon called the "Laguna" for my "ultimate" Chevy lineup, but dropped it cuz I didn't think anybody would want such a thing (except me).

I wish they had built it. It would have been nice to have something else on the kappa platform.

Re: Toyota Venza: What if GM made the Nomad?

I'm still surprised it's on sale. I had no idea until a couple of weeks ago when someone else on here said it was. And Along what Eurohazard was saying, it is basically just the Toyota Pacifica. If it were GM launching the same vehicle, people would be calling GM retarded for putting out something like that when the segment already died with the Pacifica. It would actually make more sense for GM to do it as a sort of mini-van replacement if it were significantly cheaper than the Traverse. But to make matters worse for Toyota, they still have a minivan, and the Highlander...but they're Toyota, so it's "this thing is the right thing at the right time," because they can do no wrong...BOLLOCKS I say!

My thoughts exactly. I'm aware the Venza won't be a game changer, yet obviously Toyota's customers demanded such a product and that is why they made it.

The Nomad would have turned heads, That is what GM needs now. Head turners to turnaround perception. Products that look like no other. Make you stand out at the Friday 'Happy Hour'. The Venza won't turn many heads. It is another "white bread" product from Toyota. It's just frustrating that GM could have been on the cusp with re-introducing the "station wagon" to NA.

I'm aware the Magnum has lost some flair. Yet, if I saw one in a used car lot, I may hit it. Especially in black.

Too bad Ford also did their own Nomad type thing already...

Long wagon profile. It's lacking in some character in the front and back (typical of Fords of late) but it's a tall Nomad.
