Thoughts on a 2004 Dodge Neon

Car in question: a 2004 Dodge Neon SXT with 17k on the odometer for sale (private owner) for $7500. I am looking for an economy car and haven't a clue about Dodge Neons. The car is loaded, AT, and the body is in excellent shape. The seller is in the military and is about to transfer. The mileage has me interested and I think the seller will lower the price to $7k.

Any thoughts?

Sounds good to me. He/she being in the military has probably been overseas for a good chunk of that vehicle's ownership, and that would make sense with the mileage. Still, I'd get it checked out by a local dealership just to be on the safe side. Good luck and let us know what you decide.

My friend has an 03 ex-rental base model, it's reliability has been flawless, and the a/c blows COLD.

my neighbor has a 98, granted it was ricer tuned before she got it. Big POS. Easy to fix though. gets great mileage (its a manual which helps)

I didn't mind the one I test drove, in fact I liked it more than the Caliber. I say go for it.

I'd try to bring down the price, even accounting for the mileage. And look around to see what else you can find for about the same price. Neons are servicable cars, but you might be able to do better.

Re: Thoughts on a 2004 Dodge Neon

My dad owned a 1996 model and it sucked ass big time. Maybe they have improved the car since then, I sure hope so.

The 2 big problems we had with the car was bad head gaskets resulting in massive oil leaks, and also bad factory paint. The car's paint was peeling down to the primer less then 5 years after he purchased brand new.

FWIW, everyone I know with second-generation Neons has been absolutely pleased with the reliability and service they've got from the car.

No way. Its an old design, which I don't advocate purchasing. Get an 05 Caliber or an 04 Ion/Cobalt or an 04 Focus...these are all way new engineering/designs...which I advocate!

Are you asleep? The Calibur did not come out in 2005 and the Cobalt didn't come out in 2004 (it was 05) and the Ion didn't either (it was 03) and there is no difference between a 2003-2004 Focus mechanically speaking so whats the deal here?

I'd say go for it. Seems like you have room to bargain on the price.

Re: Thoughts on a 2004 Dodge Neon

It is about the worst waste of $7500 I can possibly think of. What a bad car. It was easily one of the worst cars DCX made. Read any review of this car. The build quality was terrible, the paint was trash, they drove like a sloppy golf cart, and looked like a disaster.

Oh wait, $7500? You can buy a 94 Corvette for this money
