Suggestions for GM's Plan to Congress???

GM Inside News,

How about a FRONT PAGE thread for members to post their ideas on what GM needs to present to Congress???

As GM employees, shareholders, fans, US taxpayers, customers... and with the chance that someone from GM is listening, we could put forth "the plan" for saving GM... and maybe GM will listen or at least consider some fresh perspective.

for years I've been calling for the replacement of RIR.

for longer I've been preaching that the answer is Return to Greatness

what if I'm right? how wrong have I been so far? called the sale of GMAC, called the $5 stock (then said it would go under $2), called the BK by year end. hmmmm.....

Gm does't own 49% of gmac anymore. They need too sale the rest of it now. Retool up quicker too get these new ecotec engine's out and these Chevrolet Cruze.

You know it really p!sses everyone off when you are CONSTANTLY right...
YES first things first... RICK NEEDS TO GO!

We got down to a 1.70 today... No one has posted the significance of that... Anyone ever look at a GM certificate... they have a PAR value of 1.67...

That is the minimum value that GM says the shares are worth less then that and people notice and you have to declare the stock as a LIABILITY... we came within 3 cents of that amount today.

As long as Rick is in charge GM is TOAST... without Government support it will be dead within 12 months... WITH Government support it will take 2-3 years.. the end result is the same... Rick has p!ssed away over 70 BILLION of corporate value during his 10+ year tenure...

HE IS DONE... HE MUST GO!

Re: Suggestions for GM's Plan to Congress???

the Board of Bystanders wouldn't remove him, maybe Congress will.

Red Ink Rick lost over $70 Billion in the last few years. GM can’t afford the interest on the debt they already have. loaning dollars to Wagoner is akin to giving an alcoholic a bottle of wine.

in 94 he became CFO without an accounting degree. our financials are still in disarray with “material weaknesses”

heading NAO he lost gobbs of market share.

becoming CEO in 2000, he took over a company worth $66 Billion with a solid dividend and decent balance sheet. whoops there it went!

he drove Olds into the ground, starved Buick nearly to death, spun Delphi but kept the liabilities, then sold us on surrending GMAC which he claimed would increase their ratings and lower cost of capital, ya right Rick!

he blew Billions on Fiat and hundreds of millions on legal fees and even more on investment banking “advice”.

oh and those pesky folks over at Fitch, S&P, and Moody’s.

better stop here, I’m getting ill…

Re: Suggestions for GM's Plan to Congress???

0) Show up prepared to any future hearings.

1) Sell OnStar. Personal cell phones are rapidly making the integrated cell obsolete. Look what Ford did with Sync.

2) Use loan money to reduce the 'labor gap' today. Pull ahead the VEBAs and health care agreements to get them off the books now and set the record straight w/ Gettlefinger.

3) Get the vehicle's feature packages in line with other makers. Stop adding so much content and increase margins on the fully loaded ones.

4) All new marketing department with a cut-throat campaign. No more silly 'the sky is falling, no wait, it's shoes' commercials.

5) Win the PR war by realizing that America does not pity the company, admit some fault rather than pointing figures, and make some changes to have the public believe GM is taking the necessary steps to turning around.

6) Bring Holden's over as is and top spending useless millions on unique fascias. The Holden's always look better than the Pontiac's anyway.

7) Same w/ Opel and Saturn.

Start with the CEO driving from Detroit to Washington in a Volt, or a least a Cruze. Invite a harsh critic from the media to ride shotgun for the entire trip.

Hmmm, embedded journalists who hates GM... that'll be a miserable ride from Detroit to DC. Rick might end up driving into the Potomac!

I think they've lost the PR battle. But good idea.

Re: Suggestions for GM's Plan to Congress???

Well, without a doubt, if possible, I would like Mr Wagoner to bring Mr. Lutz along.

United States Marines retired or still active tend to be 'highly effective' when surrounded by the kind of chicken****, dust and feathers people that exist in our Senate and in the House.

There is no better presenter - for pointing out correctly whats at stake, what needs to be done - and the United States Federal Government's majority responsibility in creating this situation - that's in regards to the short term and the long term.

There ain't a group of them he couldn't ( rightfully) put in their place - simultaneously.

Vehicle ……………… Gallons per year
Volt ………………….. 37
Prius ………………… 228
30 MPG car ………… 380
20 MPG car ………… 570

Re: Suggestions for GM's Plan to Congress???

GM's plan should be openly clear that long-term viability should include ingesting Chrysler, absorbing the nutrients, and pooping out the waste.

Long-term viability for the Detroit 3 includes not having too many competitive vehicles between themselves (much less within themselves).

Not to worry about anti-trust - there's enough volume and steadiness in the transplants that a merger-a-trois would not constitute a monopoly. A "Detroit 1" would make it tough for the UAW to decide who to strike against first come negotiation time.

If you don't give us the money we will cease all US auto production, only build Trucks, Corvettes, Caddy's and Volts domestically. Import the rest from China or Korea. Give the UAW Walmart applications.

he's more apt to become tangential in his remarks, perhaps extolling the virtues of Viagra. worse yet, he's prone to falling asleep under such circumstances.
