On-Star saves the day

GM should have fun with this one.

"Senator's daughter is carjacked
Posted: December 3rd, 2009 03:13 PM ET

From CNN Political Editor Mark Preston
Sen. Bob Corker's daughter was carjacked Wednesday night.
Sen. Bob Corker's daughter was carjacked Wednesday night.

Washington (CNN) - The 22-year-old daughter of a Tennessee senator was carjacked in nation's capitol Wednesday night and two suspects were arrested a short time later, police said.

Sen. Bob Corker's daughter, Julia, was not "seriously injured," but "she is sore" from the attack, the Tennessee Republican's chief of staff Todd Womack said in an interview with CNN. Sen. Corker was back at work Thursday morning and the family is expected to pick up the vehicle this afternoon.

Julia Corker, who works in the city, was stopped at a red light last night near the Verizon Center between 9 p.m. ET and 9:30 p.m. ET when a person knocked on her window. She rolled the window down and the person was able to open the door and then "dragged her out of the vehicle by force and threw her onto the pavement and drove away," Womack said.

Womack said that officers with the Metropolitan Police Department, U.S. Capitol Police and the FBI quickly responded to the incident.

The Seat Pleasant Police Department in Maryland says around 10:30pm two officers received a call about the carjacking and the vehicle was equipped with the OnStar tracking system. The police officers apprehended the two suspects that were in the vehicle and took them to a Maryland station to be interviewed by two Metropolitan Police detectives.

"It was determined they will handle the actual charges, because the incident happened in Washington, D.C.," said Seat Pleasant Police Sgt. Leroy Patterson.

"Sen. Corker was grateful to them for the outstanding way they took care of his family and he is grateful that Julia was not hurt," Womack said."

I suspect Sen. Corker has a greater appreciation of OnStar.

They took the car and threw her out?? She's hot as hell! I'd rather have her and ditch the car!

Who just rolls down their window while stopped at a light at 9:30 at night?

Idiot.

OMG that is hot.

I expect that this family will NEVER have a vehicle without OnStar. And I mean NEVER!

I am very thourough when doing my OnStar presentation. I always say "It is a great system to have in the event that something happens"

I am glad she was not hurt or kidnapped.

Here is another good one:

Beverly Hartley’s 9-month-old Yorkshire terrier, Fidelis, was accidentally poisoned when, unbeknownst to Beverly, the gardener put down some poisonous snail pellets and little Fidelis — who barely weighs five pounds — found one and tasted it.

Beverly had just come inside with Fidelis when the puppy started walking oddly and tripping on her own paws. Then Fidelis collapsed.

Young, Tennessee country girls who are out of their element in the "big city."

Anyone else find this story a little ironic? Senator Corker was one of the main opponents to the American automobile industry bailouts, often degrading GM much more than they deserved... And we all know GM management deserved to be taken down a peg or two, but Senator Corker went a little far for my tastes.

I found this piece of an interview Senator Corker gave today:

CORKER: She was shaken up, but she remembered that she had OnStar. You know, this was my campaign car, back in 2005. It's got 180,000 miles on it. And every month, you know, I keep thinking, I'm not going to pay the OnStar bill again -- it's like 12 bucks or something --
REPORTER: Wow. You're like a commercial for OnStar!

[...]

CORKER: The OnStar folks [snaps fingers] found them just like this.

I'm sure the Senator's opinion of GM has changed quite dramatically today... Not only that OnStar helped in the apprehension of those who carjacked his daughter, but also the realization that his GM vehicle has 180,000 miles on it!

Re: On-Star saves the day

Well, he probably doesn't even realize OnStar is part of GM - probably thinks it's a Japanese company.
