Re: Spotted

The only time I saw an SSR was back when I was in high school, but then again the guy who owned it also owned the city's Chevy dealership!

Re: Spotted

SSRs used to be common, but now they're a rare sight. I see more XLR-Vs than SSRs these days. I really dig 'em with the LS2.

Re: Spotted

I saw a purple Lotus Elise at the baseball game the other day and a red SSR at a local restaurant a few hours later (IDK how to tell if it had the LS2).

Other than that, my town is a hotbed for Jeep Grand Cherokees, Ford F150s, Priuses, and late Acura products.

Undeniable resemblance imo, moreso than to SSR's attributed inspiration, the 'Advanced Design' Chevrolet pickup.

I think both above and below vehicles date from approx 1953?

Re: Spotted

Spotted - Vauxhall Vagabond convertible at Homebush NSW.
It was being driven, so i didn't get a good look - just enough to ID it.
Ozzie only contraption built by Holden on the chassis on the Ute.
My Dad had one, a good while before me though, so this is the first one I've seen "in the flesh."

Forgive the pedantics, these were really a tourer, as Vagabond didn't have wind-up windows (or any side glass) like a true convertible does

Re: Spotted

^ true.
I wasn't aware of that level of accuracy on these terms. Tourer/Convertible/DropHead/Cabriolet not sure on the strict markers of difference.
Interesing Topic though, I'd say most of the old Coachbuilding terms have been barstardised by the marketers by now.

I saw one in a parking lot on Friday night, pretty neat cars actually. I love those tail lights though...

I'd forgotten all about the Elan! Man that was one of my dream cars as a teenager! Thanks for the memory!
