Re: Road & Track NEXT CAMARO!!!

I'd like to see the round lights, done F430 style, in the trailing edge of the decklid. Scrap, please, the idea of borrowing anything from the front of the Ferrari 612, indeed, the 612 is one of the weakest ideas of Ferrari styling I've ever seen. As style goes, it is not a replacement for the 456.

As for the inside, it would be hard to beat the inside of the new Mustang, but a good start would be to get rid of the non-commital tans and greys that are so much the way things are done any more. Let's color key the inside to the outside, and offer a few choices that work together. Bring back some of the drama that was American car interiors, as long as good ergonomics are part of the package. Black could be a background color (dash, headliner, carpets) for a number of two tone combinations.

If the Camaro has a hood like that, it will be a shame, though, if the base engine isn't the Vortec 4200 inline 6.

Come on, we're waiting...

Re: Road & Track NEXT CAMARO!!!

What about a firebird or the next gen GTO remember Pontiac is suppose to become there true performance brand.....and another thing i think that article is a hint that GM has a plan for future muscle cars because i heard in another source that theres gonna be a GTO concept at one of next years autoshows and now there saying theres gonna be a camaro also and a production camaro in 2007 in time for the 40h anniversary and 2007 is when the original plans for the next GTO was suppose to come out trust me GM got something up there sleeves.

Re: Road & Track NEXT CAMARO!!!

Chevrolet will also make a retro ponycar like Ford? Hmmm...
I remember in older Camaro threads, many Camaro fans didn't like the "retro styling" move of Ford with the new Mustang. They didn't want the next Camaro(if there will be any) to end up in the retro styling path...

Is Retro the only way to fight retro?

Lets wait and see.

By '07, GM will still be "studying the RWD phenomenon". You want to bet?

i wish that the camaro would look like that, i think it does a better job at recalling the past the past but still being modern than the mustang does

Re: Road & Track NEXT CAMARO!!!

The drawings are meaningless except for discussion of whether we like it since they are R&T drawings based on guesses of what a Camaro might look like, yet based on that we already have people saying that the Camaro will have better quality than the Mustang?

If the Camaro were to look similar to this RT drawing, I agree w/ BigAl that round lights would be nice. I like the side view, the rear view is okay, but the front would need work.

GM is studying something until final approval for production, which is about 18 months before production starts.

GM will have a very interesting show at NAIAS. All the hints have pointed to that, if you don't believe them then go buy a Mustang.

Re: Road & Track NEXT CAMARO!!!

The article says GM promised the CAW (Canadian Auto Workers) if there is another "Camaro" they would build it in Canada. Maybe GM will call it something else so they can build it on the sigma RWD platform at the CTS plant in Lansing Michigan.

PS: Thanks for posting that article.

Actually, I would bet $100 that they have too many on the drawing boards as we speak, and they need to pair the list down. Just choose models with "hints" of retro. Not allot of retro, just "hints". A subtle line here, a subtle line there.

Re: Road & Track NEXT CAMARO!!!

I like retro. The '69 Camaro SS was the best looking Camaro of all time IMO.

I hope this isn't a dumb question, but can't GM tool up for sigma-based cars in Canada?

After Mustang and Charger (and now talk of a Challenger), I don't think there's any way around it it--this must be a Camaro. As in C-A-M-A-R-O.

Re: Road & Track NEXT CAMARO!!!

Its amazing how the Charger is grouped in with teh Mustang in coverstaion, and there is very little backlash that the Charger is 4dr. I mean, you hear it some times, but if Camaro were to come out 4dr?
Or even Mustang? People would march on Detroit. Is it that because Charger hasnt been around in 30 years that no one cares?
Anyway...want to see design? Front engine, RWD, long nose, short deck...

Add some of this..

That's part of it. The Charger name has been on and off, applied to Peugeot-powered FWD 4-cyl cars, etc. It's clear that the backlash isn't going to be as big for the Charger with its up and down history than for a car like the Mustang or Corvette that's been true to its heritage since the beginning. BTW, there were a lot of very upset folks on Mopar forums at first (can't tell now, I'm mostly only on GMI), but I guess they finally accepted the Charger since all main attributes were there: large, RWD, V8, and affordable. And Charger didn't really stand for "sporty car" (read: 2 door) as much as the smaller Mustang or Camaro anyway; it's a larger car, which makes the 4-door part even easier to accept.

How big was the backlash about the fact that the 94-96 Impala SS had four doors? Not that big, I guess. Why? Well, since the Impala SS was mainly about being a RWD/V8/large car, the 4-door part was easier to forgive: the most important, at least, is there. It's the same with the Charger.

The reason why it's grouped with the Mustang is because they're the only two modern, American, affordable (blue-collar brands) V8/RWD cars. Simply. It's not about the number of doors.

Answers your questions?
