Real world MPG
I was really impressed with the mileage I got yesterday with the Colorado. I went on vacation to Kings Dominion and got 27mpg on the open highway! I get 21-22mpg regularly during stop and go city driving. 21/27mpg is over what the colorado is rated at getting.
![]() My questions for you is what car do you drive, what is it rated at getting, and what do you actually get? |

Re: Real world MPG
2003 Toyota Matrix: EPA: 25/30(2008 number). Average over last 19 tanks: 31.1mpg.
1993 Lexus GS300: EPA: 15/21. Average over last 7 tanks: 23 mpg. I use www.mymilemarker.com to keep track of my mpg, it gives you a nice chart and stores all the data. |

Re: Real world MPG
Malibu: Rated at 24/34, actual = 30.9 MPG.
I don't even want to find out what the Envoy's/Sonoma's fuel economies are...it'll probably give me a heart attack...

Re: Real world MPG
I get about 16 MPG in city and 26-28 on the highway. And I'm NOT an easy driver. I'm one that generally passes at 90 MPH (much of the time not on purpose....that G6 just hits that speed without me knowing it ha).
I think it is rated at 15/24 under the new ratings. It's a 2006 G6 GTP. |

Re: Real world MPG
17/25 according to the window sticker on the Monte Carlo, I got 9MPG on the last tank but I went 55 miles on a quarter of a tank which is like 12MPG so far. It's so hard to stay out of the secondaries though...
The Grand Cherokee is rated at 14/20 and I've been getting 17 city when driving like a sane person and 24 highway. Coasting to a red light gets it up to 19.

Re: Real world MPG
My '07 Forester under 2008 rules is 19/26, 22 mpg combined. On the freeway doing like 72-75 with the air con on, 26 is about right. Towing my jet skis at about that speed I get around 22-24. When towing at max rated capacity I do about 16
. City rating is about right.

Re: Real world MPG
Maxima - originally rated 20/26, re-rated 17/24. I expect 24 when I fill up my next tank. I got 22.5 on my previous tank. It is capable of averaging 28 mpg.

Re: Real world MPG
A big difference is what people consider city driving. There is suburban areas with stoplights every few miles (with hills and curvy roads such as in my area) and then there is true city with stoplights at every block like NYC.
Right now during the summer when I just have work, I drive primarily 4 miles each way. The route has a bit of stop and go because I pass the Mall of GA which has stoplights at every block. There are also a few hills in there. I get about 21 mpg right now. During school, I work only 2-3 days a week and go to school everyday which is 10 miles each way on back roads, with A LOT of curvy parts, with a few stoplights here and there, and a few hilly areas. This has gotten me 25-26 mpg. I wonder what it would be like if I had a V6 and didn't have to downshift the transmission at every hill. I would guess it might actually come out to the same.

Re: Real world MPG
1971 Cadillac.....I don't even bother calculating. I tell people 10 mpg, but I suspect it's less.
1993 Camry I4 AT EPA rated 21 cty/28 hwy. I have never gotten below 21 (summer, AC blasting), I average 24-25 mpg. On the freeway it gets low 30's, but that's with me running 80 mph. One time I touched 40 mpg! But that was a lot of steady 55 mph. 2006 Nissan Armada 4x4: EPA rated it at 14 cty/18 hwy. This one's tricky because I tow with it every weekend. But I average 14 (including said towing). On a long trip towing the travel trailer, I can get as low as 10.5 mpg. One the open freeway, it's possible to see 18 mpg, and one time I did get 19 mpg. Typical freeway jaunts with the family I get 16.5 mpg at ~75 mph (non towing).

2008 5spd Satrun Astra
Rated 24/32 Last tank: 34 mpg (mostly city commute) Average last 3000 miles: 33 mpg My commute is about 8 miles one way with around 25 or so stoplights total. But they are nicely times with a speed limit of 45 or 50 depending on which road I take. I can go 4 or 5 miles sometimes without hardly even slowing down. |

Re: Real world MPG
2008 Malibu LTZ 3.6l. Worst so far- 25.5, best 32.2, EPA 17/26. My drive is mostly highway, and usually I see 28-31. Lately I've been running with the A/C on, up to 70 mph, lots of hills, and it's on the lower side, without the A/C, keeping it to 65 mph max, I see over 30. In town driving (very light traffic, few stops) I see closer to the 25.
I have yet to get stuck in true 'city' traffic, so I can't say for sure, but expect to beat 20 with this car in all situations (I cut my car off if I sit for long at any light or at railway crossings, restaurant drivethroughs, etc.). |
