Quietest Tires
I am looking for new tires and would like to buy the quietest set available. I have read the Consumer Reports reviews about Goodyear Assurance (triple treads) and am left scratching my head. It seems that CR rated them as high for being quiet, yet other internet reviews indicate a mixed bag.
Anyone have any suggestions? |

Re: Quietest Tires
The tires will go on a Ford Taurus. Sorry about omitting that, but once I started investigating this, I became more interested on the CR review. That is, is the Assurance the quietest tire you can buy for pretty much any vehicle?

Re: Quietest Tires
If you want a quiet ride, get the Assurance Comfortread. A very, very quite smooth riding tire. My mom has them on her Sienna.
She had the Triple Treads on before the Comfortreads and while they really did sharpen up the handling, they were extremely loud. If you're really going to be the only one in the car, then I personally would go for the Triple Treads. They really do make a difference in handling. After I had the Comfortreads put on the Sienna, even my mom felt the difference. If you carry passengers a lot, then I'd go for the quieter Comfortread. |

Re: Quietest Tires
The TripleTreds are more performance-geared so they are louder and harder-riding than the ComforTreds, which are great for a smooth ride and low noise. The TripleTreds offer better traction in all weather, but they can be a little harsh and niosy for some.
My sister had TripleTreds on her Grand Am and she loved them. |

Re: Quietest Tires
Triple Treads have gotten mixed reactions from my customers. Lots of people like them, but here and there I get a noise complaint.
Another tire I would suggest would be the HydroEdge from Michlien. My father has a set on his Taurus. The ComfortTreads are also a bit softer riding due to the additional rubber cap the tire has, but I have heard that its not that great in heavy rain or snow.

Re: Quietest Tires
If you're looking for a quiet tire, I would look towards new cars that are designed with interior quiet as one of their key selling features. I'm thinking here of Lincoln Town Car, Lexus LS 460 and Cadillac DTS Luxury.

I was going to suggest this as well. But since he has a Taurus already, i figured buying a new car was probably out of the question

Re: Quietest Tires
I think by suggesting looking at the new cars he may have meant to see what kind of tires are on the quieter new vehicles.
