Opel asks EU for help....
See: http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?p...&refer=germany
I think the EU may give it some money, although if they are wise they will insist that GM sell Opel/ Vauxhall to protect it from what's happening in the USA. I'm sure someone like VW or PSA is already floating that idea..... |

Re: Opel asks EU for help....
Volkswagen themselves would be suffering. In fact much of Germany is under the pump at the moment due to their exports being mainly high end expensive stuff. With customers tryig to save a buck here and there, Opel is probably in a reasonable position (GMNAs condition, not with standing).

Re: Opel asks EU for help....
Opel asks the GERMAN GOVERNMENT and NOT THE EU for help!!!
Do read the article please. This is a very opportunistic move, trying to push Germany to follow in the US' interventionist footsteps. While lending a hand to banks is a rather wise move, propping industry every time recession comes along is a rather bad one. I don't see that happening, and the EU would probably block that anyway. Re: Opel asks EU for help....
Opels top managment will meet on monday Chancellor Angela Merkel. All German states with Opel production plants also expressed willingness to talk. Ford is the next case in Germany.
