Cool Living in Japan, bought a new -for me- car!

I should have it by Tuesday, I hope! I would have had it by Saturday if Japan wasn't a bureaucratic nightmare!

It is a 1998 Cadillac Seville STS with only 28,000 km on it. Can't disclose price or much else, sorry

    FAQ:
Q: Why didn't you blank out the license plate?
A: Because I've yet to install my own. Still waiting for the city hall.

Q: Why did you buy it knowing that premium is ¥150/liter ($7/gallon) in Japan?
A: Why not? Still cheaper than bottled water, soda or beer.

It is very interesting to see an STS in Japan. Was it originally built for Japanese market or was it imported from another market?

I have always loved the looks of this version of the STS.

It is in RHD, originally built for Japan. Though I've seen many in LHD, I guess imported from the US or Canada.
Driving a LHD here is very tricky but two of my friends got Mustangs, they seem to be doing just fine. Though I can't imagine how dangerous it is to overtake in a LHD car when everyone is driving the left.

I once read something along the lines of registration or taxes being awfully expensive on vehicles over 5 years old in Japan...is that true?

Beautiful! Is it hard to park such a wide car in Japan?

F14CRAZY, yes! The taxes are about 25% of the total price!!!! Weight, age, displacement all go into the price! That doesn't include the 2 year mandatory inspection which also depends on the above!

Jesda, it is! It is like driving an H1 in America. The car can barely fit.

I also had heard about crazy strick emissions regs in Japan where as cars age it is very difficult to pass the standard. Can you elaborate?

I would have bought that orange ride with the sweet wing on the rear instead.

Oh wow, cogratz! I LURRRRRV the STS, especially now that Cadillac is anything but. It was the last time Cadillac seriously tried on a global scale, and the RHD version is there to prove it. And owning one in Japan, while living there... I envy you greatly.
