Red face help ,looking for car in Orlando area!

I am trying to find my 1968 Cutlass Which I left in orlando FL in 1992. The DMV told me it is still registered to the same person that bought it back then. the vin ends in 192712.
I still have the original owners manual and protect-o-plate. It belonged to my wife's grandfather and then her dad sold it to me in 88.
We moved to Orlando in 1990 and in 1992 (because of the impact fee and lack of another work truck after my scottsdale caught fire) I was forced to trade it to Don Mealey Chevrolet. It was sold and titled shortly after.
My wifes dad asked about it a few times recently so now I am trying to find it.here is a picture of it before I put ralley wheels on it.I know it's a longshot and it probably isn't even on the road anymore but ANY help would be greatly appreciated! You can pm me or email me if you would rather.

Thanks guys!
Proto

If you know the owner's name, just look him up in the phone book.

Perhaps it would be helpful to put your message out on other sites/message boards like this?? If you don't have the current owner's name, continually spreading the word would be the best approach to take I would think. Sooner or later, someone who knows something might stumble onto your post

Re: help ,looking for car in Orlando area!

Tha DMV was unable to give me the persons name. I never knew who ended up with it. I even wrote a letter to give to the person using the FL DMV which at first they agreed to then backed out of at the last minute. They cannot tell me who ownes it because of the privacy act.
I was going to do it on C&G but the site is unavailable right now for somew reason.
Any help would be great, this is a huge haystack!!!!

Re: help ,looking for car in Orlando area!

I did not sell it, I traded it in on a work truck at Don Mealey Chevrolet on Orange Blossom Trail. It has sense changed ownership. I checked with the dealership on old records and they only go back 5 years anyway. Believe me If I did know who had it I would have contacted them by know. I have been looking for 5 years (off and on)

If the DMV told you it is still with the same person, see if they will give you the VIN. If so, then do a carfax on it, if possible. That would be my suggestion.

Re: help ,looking for car in Orlando area!

You won't be able to carfax it, sorry. That stuff only goes back '81, I believe. Plus the car doesn't have a 17-digit VIN, which became standard after the car was made.

If it's still registered, it sounds like you can be comfortable knowing it at least hasn't gone to the crusher. It looks like you need to get somebody down in FL to help you out. Since you obviously have the whole VIN, if shouldn't be too hard to find if you can hook up with the right people.

I'm just curious, what color is that car? It looks very similar to the color of my '69 442. Also what color was it inside?

Anyway, I hope you can find your car. I know how special these things can be.
