Toyota can't build sports car--they'd cancel it right away

Re: Toyota the best home for Corvette?

Hey Monaro, you could get shot here in North America for even thinking of such an idiotic idea! There are plenty of other private car makers who could easily purchase the Corvette, moniker, and tooling and make it even more exclusive. Rather see this happen than a Toyota badge on a Corvette. How proposterous!

I would not buy a Corvette built by Toyota if they sold them for $5,000

Well, it's been sold in Europe for years and it's not a Chevy over there... would you rather not even allow Europeans the opportunity to buy Corvettes? (Like GM needs even less sales )

I am NOT agreeing that Corvette should be taken up by Toyota, but...

(and some Lexus products)

just wanting to point out that Toyota has not always made tiresome, overrated yawnmobiles or tedious appliances

Re: Toyota the best home for Corvette?

what if this happened~
just for Fun~ the reflection on the bonnet is pretty bad
i will fix it tmr
but a four door corvette with aluminum space frame and a super charged push rod with toyota injected precision and reliability

but that might not work. as a sensible and reliable super car, like the nsx and supra, will end up as a ricer's car no matter how good it is.

Re: Autoblog - Heaven Forbid: A Corvette from Toyota? Toyota the best home for Corve

how can such a thing be conceived.. its a travesty, and a sham, and a mockery. its a travashamockery! anything that can come to mind of such idiocy can not come from someone in the right mind, its utterly insane. its not that it shouldnt be done.. its that it cant be done. no one in there right mind would support the corvette after anyone other than GM had it in its lineup. it is an asinine idea and its actually disturbing to think about it. i would rather see the corvette be starved to death than to see it go to a maker such as toyota, i wont let it happen, you can pry the small block out of my cold dead hands.

Perhaps the badge acts as distraction, but I doubt that even Yoda would be stupid enough to purchase Corvette and then stick their badge on it.
They could buy it via a different company and, as has been suggested, run it via "remote".

It is funny how many heckles stood up when Yoda was suggested, but someone even mentioned Tata because of their recent acquisitions.

How do you think Jag officianados felt at this transition? Does anyone even know what Tata makes?

Back on Toyota, I'm sure they would have no hesitation in sticking their quad cam 5.0V8 from the IS-F, under that skinny bonnet. Don't think for a minute it wouldn't fit. I've seen a 4.4 jammed in the nose of an MX-5 kit.

I can understand everyone going ballistic at the thought, but just consider, for one minute, how Saab traditionalists feel.

Bitter pills are hard to swallow. Even more so when you've been the one dishing them out.

True. The Celica GT-4 was also a force to be reckoned with, as was the AE86/Trueno etc.

Of course, Toyota left that slice of the pie many years ago (case in point MR-S). Still, the case in point is, when you invest in a high return strategy, chances are, eventually you will amass significant enough funds to buy what you haven't been developing. In all reality, as has been stated, a Chapter 7 means that only the judge can approve or deny a buyer. That may also be directed at any brand within the GM realm (possibly even Holden).

Not sure if I'm reading correctly (as I don't really understand all the ins and outs of going BK), but if Rick had have declared and gone Chapter 11, then perhaps the option to sell to a choice bidder may have remained. Alternatively, in the event of Chapter 7, will the death of Corvette rest on his shoulders (I know he has advisers but hey, play your self as the public face, expect some egg)?
