Has GM stopped using HUD units?

I have been going around to different auto dealers with a friend of mine who is in the market for a new car. So when we go into any GM dealers, while he is talking to salesmen, I just look around at what is on the lot. And I have noticed on a lot of 2006 models such as Impalas, Monte Carlo's, the new 07 SUV's and the Buick Lucerne's, they do not have HUD units on them. Even the most loaded up versions. So, I have not seen anything here on the gminside website(or any other GM websites) about the HUD option being done away with. But has it been discontinued? If it has, that's really a shame. My 04 Grand Prix GTP has it, and I've really got used to it. I especially like the "stealth" mode for night driving. But I guess this would be typical of GM. Just like the night vision aid on Cadillacs, they get rid of an option that is beginning to catch on with other car makers.

From reviews I've read, the 'Vette still has one.

The Corvette still has HUD and a few Cadillacs do too.

    "Heads Up Display
4-color reconfigurable Head-Up display projects data such as vehicle speed, navigation system turn prompts, driver shift control, audio settings and optional Adaptive Cruise Control status directly on windshield"
That is from the Cadillac website for the STS V8 Premium Luxury options page. I looked at the rest of the Cadillac lineup and couldn't find anything about HUD being available on the rest.
Too bad they don't put it in Impala/Monte Carlo, that'd be a pretty cool option.

I loved the HUD in my '91 GP - I bought anpther GP in '99 because I missed it - awesome feature that is not given enough praise IMHO.

There was talk of putting that in the Camaro, should it make it to production, if the retro interior were to remain, that coming from Scott Settlemire.

With the exception of the Corvette, I thought that the only GM vehicles with the HUD were Cadillac and Pontiac.

I put the hud in my 2001 Z06 and its an awesome mod.

I'd order it for every performance car I buy from GM.

Re: Has GM stopped using HUD units?

You did not see them on Impalas and Monte Carlos, because they were never offered on them, the only Chevrolet car that has it is the Corvette. Though there are not as many cars available with HUD, GM still does make quite a few.

    Corvette
    Grand Prix
    Rendezvous(at least they used too)
STS (first 4 color application, which shows that GM is stil working on improvements)
    XLR

    Gone..

    Aztek
    Park Avenue
    Bonneville

I dont think that GM has given up on HUD's, in fact they have made some improvements to them, like the 4 color option on the STS, along with the adaptive cruise features, the built in lateral accelerometer and 2 different tachometer choices on the Corvette, look for HUD's to show up on the next gen CTS, possibly one of the Lambda SUV's and Cadillac's upcomming ULS.

Re: Has GM stopped using HUD units?

I love the HUD as well.We were out looking at cars for my Wife tonight and we could not find any with the HUD. She is really spoiled with her Rendezvous Ultra. I really like the feature too. When we had to have the windshield replaced, I was suprised that it had to be a special windshield due to the reflective area for the HUD to show up clearly. The installer said it was one of the most expensive windshields that they work on. I thought by now that GM would offer it on more vehicles. C'mon GM!
