Thank god for active head restraints! Just listening to my uncle's experience, he didn't even have whiplash when the tractor trailer hit him at 60 km/h.

The front end damage on the Solara is probably fixable. This Saab would be too, but if the C-pillars are damaged, I would definitely have the insurance company write it off.

Sorry to hear about your poor Saab but good knowing you're okay. I never thought active head restraints were a big deal until my Forester got rear ended hard. I'd imagine it saved me a lot of neck whiplash pain

Pretty obvious that most of you have little to zero knowledge of unibody repair techniques. The problem isn't even the C pillar area, but the floor of the trunk. Depending on how serious that is would determine if it's totaled. Putting it on a unibody machine and pulling out the damage will correct the C pillar. It would depend on how much damage is underneath and whether those parts can be replaced.

It looks like it would be fine. All those damages should be fixable. People seem to be exaggerating on the C-Pillar issue.

Excuse my ignorance, but how can one de-crumple a crumple zone and expect it to properly crumple again?

Look at the damage, that was just a body panel that got pushed up. If there was structural damage, you would see many more issues with the trunk.

her car drove my car up, she went underneath, you cant see the bottom in the pics. the bottom of my trunk has been pushed in and some of the welds have holes in them. if the car is unidbody, isnt the panel part of the frame?

You can fix structural damage in a crumple zone, but it never crumples right again. Look for the Top Gear video about a car repaired after an accident that they crashed. It's bad.

Re: Got in an Accident, YAY!!!!** (with pics)

If the panels in the trunk floor are pulled out so that everything else is fine and then those damaged panels get replaced, the abilities of the crumple zones are restored.

There's a right way to fix unibody damage and a wrong way. It depends on how extensive the damage you can't see is. The damage some are looking at isn't telling them what they think it is.
