Re: Exploring Area Roads

Fortunately for y'all, I returned to a road I have recently visited, but this time with a better camera. Back on the razorback, up to Monteville (quick 1/2 of Kilkenny) and then down into Nambour. I had a vid but the sound was crap. I'll try again with mrs. maks camera on another day.

Yes, the posted limit for the Razorback is 80, but I spend most of my time in 2nd or 3rd. Don't know how or why you'd do 80 in there. The edges of the tarmac drop off pretty sharply and with the trees everywhere, the shadows play havoc with your vision.

Re: Exploring Area Roads

Yeah, kind of busy, but eminently relaxing at the same time....well, I was relaxed anyway.

Re: Exploring Area Roads

This is looking down on the Nambour range road that I have mentioned a few times. It is fairly steep and as you can see gets the occasional truck as well (which ruins everything!). The left hander at the top of the pic (you can just see a black car going around it) has a slight crest at its approach, so if you are breaking too hard and going too fast, it gets the back end VERY loose. The whole range drive is only about 10 minutes long and varies from 60 to 100kph, and crosses the front end of the Sunshine Coast hinterland. It is a great stretch of road, with plenty of challenges and some beautiful views.

Re: Exploring Area Roads

I was coming up hill (toward where I took this pic) the other day in Victoria and had to drop to second because a sales rep in a Commodore wagon decided he didn't want me to pass (even though I was in the passing lane). You can see where the lanes merge just at the front of that pic. I was doing about 5200 rpm. Max torque is at 4800 and she just kept on pulling. Tunsa fun
