Dexcool or Peak Long Life Coolant? 1997 Chevy Cavalier 2.2L OHV

just got a 1997 chevy cavalier, 2.2L OHV engine, and i am looking to do a coolant change as part of preventive maintenance.

Will Dex-cool be good for this engine or will it eat at the head-gasket?
Is Peak Long-Life Antifreeze a safer option?

car has this engine (old LN2 and not the 2200 SFI):

Dexcool sucks balls use anything that isn't that.

I am not sure if antifreeze dicking around is worthwhile, depending on the mileage you are going to eat the HG anyway, so might as well save the $15 of antifreeze to buy the $30 headgasket

Most GM cars from 1996 and up will use Dexcool.
Your owners manual or coolant res. cap will state what you should use.

Its best to ignore the "Deathcool boogieman engine killer" posters as they are usually clueless!
The cause of Dex-cool "gelling" or eating the head gasket myth issues is because of other unrelated engine cooling system defect/neglect causes.

If you currently have dexcool in your 97 and have no issues it should be flushed and replaced with the same. Dexcool or its brand x variants are usually pink/orange in color.

Any Dexcool compatible (stated on bottle label) store brand coolants can be used. Look for this label:

If your car was switched to regular green NON dexcool coolant just flush and fill with regular coolant.

dexcool is fine, just don't mix any water in.
