Detailing my truck, question(s)

Ok guys, its coming to the point where I need to put a coat of wax on. In the past I've use Duplicolor Wax and Grease Remover (see pic.) I've used it on my monte carlo, and it rips everything off of the surface. Old wax, any dirt, or road grime.

The guy at auto zone said it wouldn't harm my clear coat or paint. I believe him. It did wonders, and made my monte shine! I just wanted to make sure with you guys that it was the right stuff, as I have a more expensive vehicle now, my truck. I never ran into issues with my monte's paint with this stuff, though you should wear gloves!!

This stuff won't hurt the paint/clearcoat will it???

Talked with a guy I know who's a body shop guy, he said it's fine, just don't apply it in the sun. Looks good to go!

Re: Detailing my truck, question(s)

Have fun with that. Took me the better part of two days to wash, clay-bar, wash and wax my truck the first and so far the only time I did it. I detailed the inside too.

Well it wasn't two full days. I got tired and put the turck inside to do the wax and just left it overnight cause I was tired. I used to be able to do all of that to my little Saturn Coupe in a couple of hours. I dind't know there was a wax and grime remover like the one you posted. I've always used the clay bar for that.

Re: Detailing my truck, question(s)

This stuff rocks, it made my 1995 monte carlo look almost brand new, with the whipe of a cloth, it removes EVERYTHING! sometimes oxidation too!

Note: this stuff has a label that says in California, its proven to give you cancer.... so yeah wear latex gloves! and have good ventilation (in the shade!)

Re: Detailing my truck, question(s)

I use a clay bar too, and I like the results. But, if you've never had any problem with the wax remover, go for it. Let us know if it's faster and if it's able to release the surface contaminants like a clay bar.

Re: Detailing my truck, question(s)

I use clay bar. It makes the truck smooth as glass. I don't think the wax remover will do that. I polish using Adams three step, but I use Zaino for the sealer. I don't care for adams wax. I have a black truck and it was scary to use a buffer, but it turned out nice.

Re: Detailing my truck, question(s)

Clay bar would be more effective, and quicker, I can't imagine using a solvent type liquid on my entire car that sounds like a lot of work, claying is not hard and it is quite quick if you know what you are doing. Just clay polish wax. Done. Unless you want paint corrected, then bring it to us.

Amen.

Anyway, it worked well. I got a letter back from dupli-color as well, they said it will not harm the paint or clear coat.

I live in MN until the end of the week (new job and relocation) but it's been getting cold and I did this all last night after work in a non heated garage, made it a little tough, the light was bad as well, but If there's any wax leftover, i'll go over it once more before it gets dark, and make sure the its ready to go for winter .

The grease/wax remover + the wax i use, really brought the metalic flake back to life, and the truck looks amazing!

In the past I've done this in good weather or in a heated garage, and highly recommend doing so.

If you decide to use the same stuff I used, do not apply it in the sunlight, but it worked well.

Dawn is just to PREP and cut the old wax... not for continued washes!

There's no need to spend $$ on cutting agents. Dawn (or any other good dish soap) will do the trick for cutting old wax buildup.

Anyone who spends hours waxing and detailing a vehicle would be insane to use dish soap to wash it.
