The Consumer Reports Worst Value Cars

The Consumer Reports Worst Value Cars

The BMW 750Li is the worst value for your dollar, Consumer Reports said recently.

The magazine, which recently ranked the Toyota Prius as the best value for your money, said the 705Li costs $1.80 a mile to drive. "With frustrating controls and a below-par ride, the 750Li didn’t score well enough to be recommended and racked up one of the worst predicted-reliability scores," the magazine wrote in its roundup.

Consumer Reports measures value by weighing five-year ownership costs, predicted-reliability scores and road test scores and coming up with a cost-per-mile figure. The biggest factor in five-year ownership costs is depreciation – how much owners can sell their car as used.

The winner, the Prius, costs just 49 cents per mile to own, compared to the BMW750Li's $1.80 a mile to own.

    Other "winners":

    • Upscale Sedan - Dodge Charger
    • Luxury Sedan - BMW 750Li
    • Sporty Car - Volvo C70
    • Small SUV - MINI Countryman
    • Midsize SUV - Jeep Wrangler Sahara
    • Large/Luxury SUV - Nissan Armada
    • Minivan/Wagon - Chrysler Town & Country L

Does it surprise anyone that a large luxury sedan in the worst "value car"? Oh wait, this is Consumer Reports. Silly me -- expecting something that made sense.

The idiocy inherent in this is mind boggling in it's utter purity.
I want a car so violent that the mere thought of full throttle would cause a heart attack. That actually going wide open throttle in would result in nothing less than instant death!

What a bunch of crap. For starters, what gangstaz or pimp is going to drive around in a Pious? He'd get laughed out of the hood.

The 750? Really? Why not any of the exotics or something like a Bentley. I mean, really, you only need 4 wheels on steel rims, crank windows, and a plank for sitting. Anything beyond that is a waste of money. I have no idea why anyone would go and spend more than a few shillings for a car. Utter waste.

CR. Sheesh. They have little episodes on our local news now and it's like watching the smuggest ******* on the planet. He just oozes the "I know what you should buy, listen to me in all my glory. Buy what I tell you to buy!" Ugh.

I'm starting to think that if you want to be happy with your purchase, buy what CR doesn't recommend. Style? Comfort? Performance? Handling? NVH? Bah. Useless amenities.

I am going right away to purchase a Plug in Pious, and tell everyone who will listen about how amazing it is.

The 750 made the list because it's expensive to own and not that great of a car. If you want one, wait 5 years or so and buy on the used market for $15k.

I am surprised that anyone that subscribes to CR owns a 750. I call BS!

I have always hated Focus. I didn't mind the Escort ZX2, but always hated Focus. Like Nelson from the Simpsons "HAHA". Welcome to CR.

"Everyday handling is sound by sloppy when pushed to the limits," they said. "Reliability has been well below average."
did they mean "but" instead of "by"? Anyway, who cares that the handling is like when a Town & Country is pushed to its limits
Man this reminds me of good ol GM...you can use "same ol GM" as you use "same ol Lions"

I understand that you have a personal issue with the 750 but I would imagine that your post was also mainly said in jest?
