Look at all these very easy to see copies of current vehicles.

Re: Attack of the Clones!

I have nothing against the people, but I absolutely passionately HATE these Chinese "business" morons who rip off so blatantly and aren't bothered by it.

Re: Attack of the Clones!

The ripoff Corolla actually has nicer headlights than the real Corolla, that's kind of funny.

Re: Attack of the Clones!

I actually don't like the fact that they are copying the other designs, but to me the clones of the crown and the rolls phantom are pretty cool looking imo, better than the originals...

Re: Attack of the Clones!

If they try to pull this in the US market it will just cheapen their image, and hurt their prospects. High profit vehicles have appeal, being a knock-off of something is not real appeal.

Re: Attack of the Clones!

I wish the US could ban the sale of Chinese cars within its borders. That's ridiculous.

Well, theoretically they already do ban the bad ones, given that there are safety regulations which the real terrible ripoffs could never meet.

However, banning the entire product of a country could never work, and you wouldn't want it to. Honest Chinese car companies do make good cars, although most of said honest companies are joint ventures with other companies. There's no reason to stop the good ones from selling cars here.

Yeah, that's all true... and I know you're opeining a huge can of trade-worms if you outright ban them. But there really has to be a way to enforce copyright laws here, even if they can't be enforced over there. None of those vehicles pictured should be allowed in North America based solely on the fact that they're ripoffs.

That's a slippery slope there though. What is a ripoff, exactly? There are obvious ones, of course - the Chery QQ and Chevy Matiz can apparently interchange parts - but how similar do they need to be?

Safety regulations will ensure that the clones will never be sold here, because they're not made well, that's why they're so much cheaper.

Hmmm... fair point... but, well, they're just plain ripoffs! Grrrrrrrrr! Must be frustrating for the automakers... I can see how it'd be very hard to 'prove' their design is being stolen. But some seem so obvious...!
