"The Anonymous Designer," Has Cadillac Got It's Groove Back?

Cadillac ATS is Esquire's "2013 Car of the Year." I designed 1977-1990 Cadillac Deville's and Brougham's as well as Motor Trends "1977 Car of the Year." Do tell, how significant is a "Car of the Year Award?"

I am writing a book I plan to announce next Black History Month. Has Cadillac got it's "Standard of the World" groove back? Will the 2013 ATS Awards be the next to last chapter in my book? Exciting times lay before us over the next year, the timing could not be better! Already the ATS designer is being called out and receiving accolades for the ATS design.

The Planet is all a-"Twitter" over the ATS. What say you GMInsider eh?

As the second generation of A&S start to roll out its no dought that Cadillac is back to making beautiful models that stand out. It's even taken FWD based models in the SRX and XTS and allowing them to fit into the portfolio.

IMO the ATS has what it takes to win over Americans who are in the market for European or Japanese premium cars, not foreigners. Despite GM's repeated attempts to position the Cadillac brand in export markets. The cheapest ATS will cost around $70,000 in the Netherlands. BMW and Audi 'equivalents' cost substantially less.

General Motors era of sexy car designs began with Harley Earl and ended with "the Anonymous Designer" (yours truly).

Beginning with the CTS and now the ATS Cadillac designers are bringing sexy back!

Put Donald Trump’s questionable Politico ethic’s aside, the Donald is a credit in attesting to quality, functionality, value and a reputable critique when it comes to personal transportation. Having himself once been the “Cadillac” of Billionaires, the Donald has always represented the Cadillac style and Flair.

Like Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, Cadillac and Betty Davis, Donald Trump will go down in history. I had to pause when I read the Donald's Trump card was the Cadillac ATS for the 2013 Car of the Year. Go Figure, let it be known eh?

Esquire has about .00000000012% influence in the world of car people, so no, them making the ATS the COTY does nothing to bring Cadillac back to the design of yore.

The new XTS and ATS look okay, but they are a several steps back off the current CTS.

The ATS looks Great! Like a CTS that matured with grace and youthful looks. It can get lost in a parking lot full of aging Cadillac's when it should stand out even among Cadillac's if it wants to represent forward into the future. The new ATS is starting out as an old folks baby.

General Motors needs to stop worshipping all things European and return to finesse American Style, the Standard of the World was American Styling. European style is applying a branding theme across all models, the lost Standard of the World style was to design themes dedicated to the niche. Cadillac's ain't looking like Deville's, Eldorado's and Seville's no more, they all look like "Cadillac's" like all BMW's look like BMW's. Ya got to read the trunk to see the difference between a CTS, ATS and XTS. The design is more like branding these days, they don't design them like they used to eh?

Cadillac owners used to get a design you didn't have to tell them about, that's the kind of love they could do without. The Standard was a love you could see was for real, the kinda real you look at a Eldorado and knew just what was the deal.

The ATS has the guts but on the outside all the new stuff looks like it is "certified previously owned."
