269(ish?) vs 240?

Sides, 242 isnt exactly a whole lot of HP over the Tacoma...i think that has 239

Now we are just splitting hairs.

Colorado: 242hp/242lb ft
Tacoma: 236hp/266 lb-ft

Okay, but I'm waiting for the redesigned front end, like that concept truck we saw a little while back.

Yes, and the interior could use a review by the newly discovered interior talents within GM.

The 5500lb Tahoe get 16/22 mpg with 320hp. I really want to see what the 3400-3500lb Colorado will get.

~21/26 possible?

Re: V8 for '08: Chevy Colorado engine lineup expanding

I hope they will allow it in the regular cab xtreme model. If they do, I think I would have to go have a look at it and trade my car for one

Re: V8 for '08: Chevy Colorado engine lineup expanding

I have an 07 reg cab colorado with the 3.7 and its a fun truck. I don't normally do this, but the other day I floored the gas pedal from a stop to see what she would do and it layed a patch of rubber over 30 ft long. I can only imagine what the V8 will do if they offer it in a reg cab configuration.

Mileage is definitely not the top of the heap, but what can you really expect with a I5 that is 3.7L. Thats not exactly small, and at 242HP it wasn't designed to be a gas sipper. After all its not like its a small econobox motor with 2.0L or smaller displacement. Its almost twice the displacement of the average 4 cyl.

Re: V8 for '08: Chevy Colorado engine lineup expanding

I love my Colorado.....my I-4 2800 Crew cab works just fine for me, gets up to speed with no problem, lets me haul ladders and landscape stuff for around the yard with no problem.

That said, I am returning about 20-24 MPG in mixed travel.....best I have done is 26 MPG in all highway.....which is about the same as I was getting in my 04 Aztek with a 3.4L V6......That four banger should return numbers closer to 30 MPG hwy in my opinion, that is my only diapointment.

Re: V8 for '08: Chevy Colorado engine lineup expanding

I concur with an earlier post.

This launch will have limited impact without a heavy MCE to fix up the ugly interior and exterior. Now that the GMT900's have launched, the Colorado and Canyon have revised styling cues that they can use.

Expect a big jump in Colorado and Canyon sales. This will help as people are becoming less interested in full size trucks. Now if GM loses a full size truck customer because of fuel economy...they at least won't go to a high powered V6 Japanese rival. We now have a midsize truck that will offer class leading power and most likely good fuel economy.

My current ride - 2004 Mazda6s - V6 with a five speed manual. GM forced me to the competition because they didn't offer a midsize sedan with a V6 and manual transmission.

Re: V8 for '08: Chevy Colorado engine lineup expanding

The irony - at least for the CAFE deal, is that it would be getting better gas mileage in the 4x2. I'd love an ext cab with the low suspension and 5.3L - I guess that means Chevy will figure out a way to only offer it on a 4x4 crew.

The Monte Carlo SS weighs 3,549 and gets 18/27 mpg with the 5.3. I will buy a Colorado if it gets anything close to those numbers!!!

Your driving a frigg'n crewcab. Thats why your not getting 30mpgs. Drive a regular cab and you might flirt with that number.

My thoughts about the V8 upgrade. A definite step in the right direction. Along with the interior getting upgraded as someone has already mentioned I would like to see stronger axles and a better braking system.
Since this truck shares a similiar platform as the H3(and H3 Alpha) why not use the same stronger axles, which also come with 4 wheel disc brakes.

Time will tell.. hopefully this is a true upgrade and not just a couple half measures.
