This type of logic is precisely why I doubt there will be a V-8 Camaro under 35k.

In a word: Idiocy.
The regular cab already misses out on the top level trim, bucket seats, and leather if I am not mistaken.

Well, there you have it! Some counter of beans has determined what the consumer doesn't NEED.

I could get all sorts of stupid silly over a 5.3 reg cab Colorado with a nice mid-level interior. A leather clad crew-cab Colorado with a V-8 for under 40k?!

Only thing is, the 292 is iron - I wonder if that's going to make for blackjack like weight distribution.
There are versions of the 5.3L mentioned in the article( ~323 cu.-in.) in aluminum as well, although for cost reasons we would probably end up seeing the iron version.

The only 5.3L truck engines listed in the guide are all 300-310hp, did the official H3 release say 295? as someone mentioned, the 4.8 is 295 iirc, so I wonder if we might see closer to 300 (not that 5 hp is really a big deal).

Either way I can see this engine helping sales for those who want a larger engine in the compact segment, as well as those who want a more capable tow vehicle but don't want to spring for a full size.

What? You make no sense. The Colorado Crew with leather can be had for $28K, so how does adding a V8 increase the cost by $12K. Just a bit over dramatic.

No kidding. While the V8 is definitely a good thing, I would trade-in my current 05 Colorado for a new Crew Cab 4x4 with a diesel & 5/6 spd stick -- in a heartbeat.

Re: V8 for '08: Chevy Colorado engine lineup expanding

GM has got to put the aluminum version to use in this application or it will make the handling even worse that it already is. I think an aluminum 5.3 might even be lighter than the Atlas I5 so that would be a bonus. I new this engine would only be available in the bigger cab versions with an automatic but I am hoping the reason for that is so that there is enough profit built into the higher priced versions to make is economically feasable. I am hoping that the reason is not because they are going to use and iron block making the weight balance with the standard cab so poor that the lawyers won’t let them do it. All Aluminum or forget it!

It was absurdity. But if it will only come on the upscale trims levels, then why bother?

Who's saying the V8 will only be available with upscale trims on the Colorado? The only things we know about the V8 in the Colorado is that it comes only with a 4L60/65E slush-a-matic and is not available in regular cab models.

Their has been no mention on trim models or 2wd/4wd drivetrains. Hopefully after the 20th their will be substanially more details that can be divulged about this much needed upgrade.

Deductive reasoning. Look at the Impala, Monte, Votrec Max, G8, and even the Trailblazer. The top-engine option requires the top trim level. So, it stands to reason that the V-8 won't be available in a base or lower trim level.

The V-8 should be optional in everything, let the market decide.
Even if it's a 4.8 or the 5.3 is only available with 3.08 gears, it should be avaliable in the reg-cab.

I am looking for a replacement for my TBSS. I will seriously consider the Crew cab Colorado v8. I would hope that it includes AFM. Will more info be released after the 20th?

i meant with the trailblazer. sorry.

I think Nissan is still waiting for the right moment to unleash the v8 Frontier.
I have a V-6 Fronty with a 6-sp manual... It is like driving a 4 door 350z around town. The interior is a bit cheap, although nicer than the GM twins. Only complaint I have is the electronic controlled limited slip, which activates the brakes to the slipping wheel. I wish it had the G-80 locker!

Because it takes them a few years to get things right!

The H3 needs it even more.

Just like the 4 speed in the new Tahoe/Yukon.
