GM says full-size SUV hybrids to retail for $50K-plus

David Shepardson / Detroit News Washington Bureau

WASHINGTON -- General Motors Corp. announced the prices of its full-size hybrid SUVs today, saying all of the vehicles would retail for more than $50,000.
GM said the Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid's suggested retail price would be $50,490 (two-wheel drive) and $53,295 (four-wheel drive), while the GMC Yukon Hybrid would be $50,945 (2WD); and $53,755 (4WD).
Those prices include a $900 destination charge and pending IRS approval, could be eligible for a federal tax credit.

That is about the price people pay for well-equipped SUVS these days anyway. I know that they aren't passing on the full premium to the consumer. If you factor in tax credits, it really isn't that bad.

Thats too high. GM must be testing the waters, and will drop the prices later.

Re: Tahoe / Yukon 2-Mode Pricing...OMG!!!

So if that's the price for the Tahoe/Yukon it would be reasonable to guess that the Silverado/Sierra would be between $45 and $48k... That's a lot of coin... Hopefully as these catch on the hybrids will be offered at different trim levels.

The big SUV's are pretty regularly priced in the 50K range. You should really walk onto a lot sometime.

Yeah $50K for a SUV is seen daily. $50K for a Tahoe LT Hybrid is good. Think about it it will be pretty loaded and with a Hybrid. After the tax credit it would probably end up costing just as much as a Non-Hybrid equally equipt Tahoe. Sounds like a monthly savings to me. Win Win.

Funny. I thought it was in-line with what I thought the prices for advanced hybrids would be.

So...the Tahoe is the same price as a fully loaded LTZ. Are the features comparable? I'm sure the LTZ has more stuff.

Yeah, I'm sure GM is. You can buy an Escalade with that kind of money but you have to take to mind that people are willing to spend that kind of money, especially with these crazy gas prices. Overall the GM hybrid full size Suvs look great and I'm impressed with the specs.

Yea, that is a little high for a truck, but on the other hand it is still less than the H2 and Escalade, plus you get to tell your neighbors "It's a Hybrid!"

Plus since it'll will be in higher demand than they have capacity for, they'll test the waters and see who will pay that price. And who says GM won't make money on the Hybrids the first year?

Re: Tahoe / Yukon 2-Mode Pricing...OMG!!!

What did i tell you people in my previos posts? I told you that this vehicle will be over 50k. Does it make any sence to get tahoe hybrid when you can get MB GL diesel that gets beter mpg and can tow more? now all of you that said that i was clue less should apoligize. SUV hybrid is just stupid. You need diesel for suvs, because it is alot better choice. For small cars hybrid is a better choice.

Re: Tahoe / Yukon 2-Mode Pricing...OMG!!!

at first i was like holy crap!....but then i looked at the chevy site....considering a tahoe ls starts at 35K, and the ltz at 48k. a tahoe hybrid lt starting at 50k doesnt seem to bad- top of the line is 56. it is pretty high, i figured it would be about 43k. right in between the ltz and the lt. i figure once this gets put inmore vehicles the price will eventually come donw, however, i still think it should be available in any trim level, as a seperate add on (give it an H20 rpo code or something).

I still think it is sweet that this is Tahoes biggest and most powerful drivetrain and most economical. 20 mpg city is better than Malibu v6. This will sell great! Production has started!
