CU has on various occasions pointed out real flaws in Toyota cars, such as lousy braking distances, lousy handling, and so forth, but they still rate the heaps highly. That is either bias, or an indication that they do not consider good brakes, good handling and so forth to be important.

Its blatantly obvious they stacked the deck in the Tundra's favor and this time people are actually calling them on it.

Re: Still Fishy? Consumer Reports responds to Pickup Comparo Controversy

It was pointed out earlier, but perhaps needs reinforcement.

The people that read and trust Consumer Reports know zilch about cars, or anything else that the go to CR to get advice on. If they did, they wouldn't need to read CR.

Toyohonsaanbishi owners won't care that the test was skewed toward the Yoda; that's what their CR readers expect, and that's what CR will damn well deliver to them.

Re: Still Fishy? Consumer Reports responds to Pickup Comparo Controversy

Most people I know who are buying a truck for towing, are going to opt for the "tow package". Which usually comes with a pretty big engine (so it doesn't need to work as hard) and a transmission and axle that put that torque to work at low speeds.

Personally? If I'm towing? I would prefer the diesel. Turbo diesel preferably. If that is not atractively priced, then I will opt for the biggest gasoline engine you have, thank you.

Theres a huge difference between buying a truck for everyday driving and the occasional yard work. And quite another if you have to tow a boat, or other trailer.

They could have had them more easily matched, with the Silverado getting the 6.0L engine and available 4.3 rear-end. I wonder if they overinflated the tires too on the Silverado. <Ooops. Our bad.>

CR is like asking 100 Coke drinkers which soda they prefer. Coke or Pepsi. Of course they will say Coke. It's the sample set they select from. It's skewed.

Wonder what happens when the Tundra Hybrid comes out? Guess they will compare it to the regular 5.3 Silverado since most folks would only buy their hybrid from Toyota............
Make that if the Tundra Hybrid comes out.
Doesn't sound like that's happening anytime soon....

Those geeks, wait a minute, geeks is too nice. Those ****** ***** ****** ******* crooked twerps go out of their way to sound unbiased (in their minds) and they still slam GM in nearly every paragraph. I surely hope they're getting something out of their Japanese infatuation, they'll get nothing from me. *******s

BTW, as much as I hate CR, GM really ****ed up designing these trucks. When the **** are they going to hold people accountable??? Ken Lay managed Enron better than Wagoner and Incomlutz are "managing" GM.

Re: Still Fishy? Consumer Reports responds to Pickup Comparo Controversy

Doest matter if you think they are biased or not, the whole fact remains that they most deffinatly took two unevenly matched trucks, and pitted them against eachother.
They could have gone for teh 4.7, as probably not EVERY Tundra bought is a big 5.7, and matched it up that way.
They could have matched the Sierra Denali with the 6.2/6spd combo as well, and totaly tossed the Toyota on its rump.
Point is, the trucks were not matched up, and it shows poorly on CR's part, because they already are being accused of being biased, so why would they mismatch the two cars? Its not a careless mistake, there is no reason outside that they wanted the Tundra stacked a little higher over the Domestics.

Re: Still Fishy? Consumer Reports responds to Pickup Comparo Controversy

If you ever have a chance go look at a Tundra's paint job. I parked next to one the other day and just before I left I noticed that this truck's paint job was not smooth and ridged from mid-door to the base of the truck. This vehicle was brand new, it still had it's temporary plates. I am kind of suprised that CR thinks that Toyota is still top quality.. i'd be pissed if they painted my vehicle with a super thin coat of paint.

WTF, who cares what combo is more popular? You can't compare two differently spec'd vehicles.
well said. I now feel better knowing someone else gets it.

Sierra front looks much nicer (than the silverado). Silverado looks like Sierra's retard bother.

Styling opinions are subjective, but IMO only a blind person, Toyota employee, or a CR editor could find a Tundra attractive.

Re: Still Fishy? Consumer Reports responds to Pickup Comparo Controversy

More proof that CR is hopelessly biased. Cancel your subscriptions if you have one. I did about a year ago after they rated the Tahoe poorly for no good reason.

If I can't trust them on products I know very well, how I can trust them on anything?

Saying they screwed up implies this was ACCIDENTAL.

The deck was stacked from the beginning--this was no accident.
