Re: Chevrolet Equinox SS

You know, camo on this car just draws attention to it. If GM didnt try to disguise it, you can easily dismiss the differences to aftermarket customization.

But, glad SS 'nox is finally coming out. That boy needs some extra muscle.

Chevy has the 'SS' badge on enough products, please don't add another Grocery getter to the mix...

Amen to that! Does "Super Sport" mean anything anymore?

SS means 'Performance edition' in a way, it always has.

They are saturating it just like DCX is saturating the SRT designation... I'm waiting for the Aveo SS to come out next
Hell, they made a Chevy Sprint Turbo, so that wouldn't even suprise me

I don't see that as a bad thing. I mean as long they have performance that significantly better. It doesn't have to mean RWD and V-8s.

Why doesn't anybody have a problem with the VUE Redline, then? It's the same philosophy.

I agree. Performance no longer means RWD V8 coupes. It hasn't since the 1970's. Performance can be anything from a Supercharged 4-cyl in a compact, to a HO V6-powered FWD sedan.

I didn't say performance has to mean RWD and a V8.
I don't have any issue offering performance versions of vehicles, I just don't like every single vehicle (or at least most of them) in a companies lineup having an SS version, that's all.

The Vue Redline ins't and SS is it Saturn only has a handful of vehicles and does not offer the Redline package on everything.

One reason that people tend to turn up their noses at the larger number of SS models, but not think twice about the Redline series is that the SS name comes with memories that look like this:

and this:

or, perhaps, this:

and the Redline doesn't have to compete with those kind of memories. The history of the Redline name is being written now...

Again, I have to ask...why? I may see not liking it infringing on what could be considered "Pontiac's territory", but having a performance version of cars isn't bad, either. I know it isn't a direct apples to apples comparison, but Mercedes and BMW have AMG or M versions in production or planned for all of their models in the U.S. I know people joke about how there's going to be an Aveo SS, but I wonder if a 205-hp subcompact wouldn't be something that might sell. Kind of like the mid-engined Clio V-6. Really nutty.

To Max: I realize that Red Line's history is being written now, but that part of SS history...or automotive history, really...hasn't been true for 35-40 years (save the Caprice Impala). Certainly people realize that performance is more than Corvette and Camaro now.

Re: Chevrolet Equinox SS

How come whenever there is an SS rumour or an SS spyshot or an SS release people have to bring up this exact same argument?? Lets face it people, SS is not an in-house tuning group. It is a model level, like LX or something of that nature. There have now probably been more uninspiring SS models then pure sport versions so I don't think there's a whole lot of heritage left. Just take the truck for what it is, an upper level equinox with a body kit and a better engine. Unless it was designed by the corvette team I really wouldn't expect anymore then this.

Very true.

Anyways, our warehouse shipped out SS and GXP part for the Torrent and Equinox along time back, so weather those are the pictures of it or now, the Equinox SS is very real.

Re: Chevrolet Equinox SS

A Nox SS with a 252hp 3.6 mated to a 5 or 6spd auto, AWD only, 18's, bigger brakes, with design cues taken from the Tblazer SS....I can dig it.
