Spied: Next Gen Military Humvee?!

http://www.autoblog.com/2007/07/19/s...totype-caught/

Sadly no .50 cal or TOW missle on the roof on this prototype.

That hood is ugly........

I don't see the side entrance to the bed a production item. At least for the reasons we used them while I was active. Kinda odd.

Hope they hid that plastic tank a little better now. Too easy to shoot before.

Re: Spied: Next Gen Military Humvee?!

Hmm. I don't much care for the looks but then who does really care about a car that has a proper purpose in life rather than just a civvie vehicle.

Glad to see they've bothered with doing something about the ground clearance - should be a much better performer now rather than just an icon. Also nice to hear of the blast-up protection aswell, it won't save the vehicle but it might give the personnel inside a fighting chance.

I'm also glad they've got rid of the 4x4 system, making it more open, therefore easier to disembark and set up. One presumes the fitters will be looking at plating for the engine panels so the radiator and associated bollocks don't get shot to buggery?

One wonders what the other two entries will be like and whether the older Humvees will simply be sold off to private owners or given to various Armed forces - for example the Afghan National Army or even the Iraqi police forces.

Or even give them to the UK so we can chop them to bits and use them as bases for comms/radar vehicles....leaving the Landie to do patrols..

I would rather have a Bushmaster in Iraq.

http://www.thalesgroup.com.au/site.asp?page=154

^these have already survived multiple IED's and Ambushes with no reported casualties.

The US ARMY was to order over a 1000 of these to start replacing the Humvee in high danger areas. But the contract fell through as the US Government disliked the idea of the Intellectual properties being held in Aus, even though the Bushmaster was to be built in the US.

Even the Netherlands Armed Forces order them,

I want Hummer to build something to compete with this, but sell it to the general public. It would build my confidence that all hope is not lost for the ridiculously sweet and totally unnessecary vehicle's future.

True, but looks like there's a good spot in the bed that can handle one or 18 when the time comes.

Let's give our enemies the upper hand and just show them everything we have in the works including measurements for crying out loud. Shame on them. Do the right thing now and give the proceeds away.

Re: Spied: Next Gen Military Humvee?!

I really don't care what it looks like - so long as it serves the three main principles of a military vehicle as I see them (in this order of importance):

1. Protect and shield crew and equipment

2. Remain reliable in extremely severe climates

3. Move fast and over many different terrains

If Mercedes can make S-Class limos for heads of state in dangerous parts of the world that can take an RPG to the windshield and still protect it's occupants, should be no sweat to make the next Humvee virtually impenitrable.

Re: Spied: Next Gen Military Humvee?!

There already is U.S. version of the bushmaster and its built right here in Alabama. Sadly I am not finding any pictures of it right now.

Edit: Here is a link but still no pic:
