Re: Spied: 2010 Chevrolet Silverado Heavy Duty

I am not sure. I do know the current truck is on the GMT-800 chassis with some new body mounts, and was supposed to be on an all new platform I believe.

New frame? That would make no sense at this point.

Yes, I agree.
A new frame during a MCE isn't cost-effective or necessary.
Even though the new front suspension design will be 22 years old in 2010, the financials just don't support a change. Unless there is a massive exodus from GM HD trucks to the competition, don't count on a SFA ever returning.
GM can modify new bodies to fit the old 800 frame design, even improve on the old 800 design, as needed. Those who demand a SFA are buying Dodges and Fords. GM seems to be okay with that and in reality they can't do much to change the design for a very long time.

that makes sense what you said. it sucks a big one that the deal fell through with navistar. I was really hoping to see an F-450 competitor, and my thoughts were leaning toward SFA. The current kodiak C4500 4x4 uses Dana 70 front axles, and that would have been so sweet looking under a K4500 truck. wonder if there are any sketches out there of what it wouldve looked like?

Re: Spied: 2010 Chevrolet Silverado Heavy Duty

Same old stuff... Come on guyīs.

I canīt beleive GM can even think about putting an "1500 gmt-800 front bumper stlyle" on a HD or (hopely not) a 1500, after designing a true gmt-900 front end-bumper match beauty like we saw in the past couple of years with all the models. And whatīs that? a 1500 grille? (donīt forget that in 2003 all 1500 & HDīs had the same grille and... well...)

I mean, GM is taking a backward step designing the classic 3 layer bumper or should I say 4:

1st layer - Huge gap between the front lights and the bumper (thatīs why I said 4 layers )

2nd layer - A modest 3 inch layer (that on the 800 HDīs were about 5 in.) with a cut trim below the grille.

3rd layer - A terrible match between the fog lights and the classic all around crome layer. And I say terrible because the fog lights outlines doesnīt have any geometry with the rest of the bumper.

4th layer - An expansion layer on the tow hooks area (in my opinion, the only good stuff).

Donīt get me wrong, I love all the 800 bumpers, in fact Iīm a 800 guy straight up. But why not moving on after the incredible job that GM have done so far on the 900īs.

I hope the redesigner read this. If so I recomend putting the chin spoiler back on like in some of the 2007 HDīs preview pictures. On those, the silverado HD looked like how itīs supposed to look now, on 2010 and always: Big.

Ok, but you cant read. That truck is a TEST BED for the next Duramax and HD refresh. The bumper is NOT done yet (test) The 1/2 ton grille is NOT staying, and the bumper is different because of some problems with the current bumper, I believe.
