I agree the front end looks alot better!

But I hope GM has something instore for the 2010 1500 Silverado... With the new Ram getting all the power while still remaining pretty fuel efficient!

Re: Spied: 2010 Chevrolet Silverado Heavy Duty

I like the new front bumper a lot more than before. Overall the base model HD's are still pretty blah looking from the sides. Still room for improvment there. Wheels and tires would help a lot if they would fill up the openings.

More gears is always good, especially for a diesel. They are just guessing however, we'll have to wait and see.

I like the front bumper on this 2010 model... much more attractive than the current offerings...
why not 13 like a real truck? or go all the way to 18 and put a sleeper on it.

Re: Spied: 2010 Chevrolet Silverado Heavy Duty

They got rid of the goofy mega huge bumper.
Hopefully a 400/675 rating with 8 gears to back it up on top of Urea or other form of exhaust cleaning.

Well...it's better...but I thought the split-bar grille looked a hell of a lot better...
GMC Sierra HD is still the best.

I too prefer the Sierra, but I wouldn't mind if Chevy made the Tahoe front clip available on all Silverados, along with a bed with wheel openings that matched the front fender.

That is what I've been thinking as well. The Z71 package on the Avalanche looks great and would make a killer looking Silverado I think: Go ahead an chrome out the grille entirely and the front bumper top and there you go.. done

.....and meanwhile, GM still has no viable compact sedan offerings, and only one good midsizer.....

Re: Spied: 2010 Chevrolet Silverado Heavy Duty

Won't make any claims to be an expert on the trucks, but I could see GM trying to simplify the # of unique parts on their trucks to get costs down and simplify things more. As they continue to cut production it makes more sense to use more common parts on the $$ side. Now, not saying that it is a great idea when it comes to the different looks and how they "make" a truck.

Also, if they can do a mild tweak of the shape of the current front end and get better aerodynamics it might equal 1 or 2 mpg for little $$ invested which can go a long way.

There is potential that a more rounded front end might be more appealing these days if the mpg goes up. Remeber how the previous gen F150 wasn't manly enough with the round edges so they sharpened them up a bit, no point having a more manly truck if you can't afford to put gas in it any more.

Looks like GM is trying to blend the Chevy and GMC styling. Perhaps hoping that us GMC buyers will purchase a bowtie when the brand is gone?

I agree...which is sad considering that GMC's future looks a little crazy.

I still wouldn't consider GM's HD's though until they stick a solid axle up front

Re: Spied: 2010 Chevrolet Silverado Heavy Duty

I'm sure the changes are to both improve MPG and to reduce the number of unique parts. As truck sales decline there are fewer units sold to spread the costs over. This also adds to the GMC question, will the number of GMC specific parts make it no longer worth carrying the additional division.

Much better than the chrome coated plastic end caps on the current bumper.

something looks different though. idk but imo, it almost looks as if it sits a little higher and looks scrawnier.

About half of you guys have no idea what you are talking about, as you did not read the article. Articles are posted for a reason. If you only look at the pictures and ignore the text, you'll miss important parts and make yourself look stupid when you comment.

The grille in these photos is temporary, cribbed from a current light-duty Chevrolet Silverado 1500, but the revised front bumper is meant to be a production version.
