Rebadged Saturn Vue To Be 2009 GMC Terrain, Says Autoblog... And They Were Wrong!

Quote:
With the Torrent dropped from Pontiac's long-term plans as the brand returns its focus to performance-oriented cars, GM appears to already know how and where it'll replace the small SUV. The answer was unveiled back in November when GMC introduced the Terrain in Kuwait

UPDATE: 2009 GMC Terrain a new vehicle, will join a new Chevy Equinox. Okay, the Automotive News story we were tipped on earlier is now out, and we can clarify the details about the upcoming 2009 GMC Terrain. As initially reported, the Terrain replaces the Pontiac Torrent, which gets laid to rest as Pontiac becomes car-focused once again. The news is that Terrain will be a new vehicle roughly sized the same as the Jeep Liberty, and probably not the exact truck you see above, from the sound of things

So GMC will be getting the rebadged Vue instead of Pontiac? Great news! I guess GM finally wants Pontiac back in the performance game!

I thought GM said no more blatant rebadging. First the Chevy Traverse and now this. Looks like old GM is creeping back, just with better product to copy.

This should really help GMC round out its truck lineup. It also frees up room in Pontiac for the G8 ST.

This is a rebadge and all the replies to this post should do nothing else but lament that fact.

There is no good news here.

Re: 2009 GMC Terrain coming to US!

It looks sharp and will be a nice complement to the Acadia - hopefully GMC will sell a ton of them?

(Yes, another rebadge...but no worse [or better] than the Outlook...who knows, maybe it will outsell the Vue, LOL...)

It's better only because there should never, ever be a SUV/CUV in Pontiac's lineup unless it's a rebadged Porsche Cayenne. GMC is nothing but a rebadge division so why not give it to them? I just think it's the best decision GM could make.

It wont happen now, when the next iteration of Theta comes out, maybe they'll be better differentiated

....I agree.....but I'll add that I am not even enamoured with the Cayenne idea, LOL! (Maybe a great idea, but I am not a big fan of how Porsche executed it...)

Besides, with the Denali, they can also have GMC with performance versions of their SUVs if they want to, LOL! (I would love to see an Acadia Denali with a V-8!)

Good product but an old GM move that I do not like. I say take the Outlook from Saturn because the Chevy Version is coming out.

the cayenne is not a sports car. the cayenne is a sport utility vehicle, emphasis on sport. the 07/08 facelift looks good, much better than the debut face. it doesn't matter how good or bad it looks though, it's a porsche and if you've ever driven or been in one you wouldn't really care what it looked like. the turbo s is a rocket

Re: 2009 GMC Terrain coming to US!

It looks more like an Acadia and people love GMC anyway.. If anything there should not be a 4cyl version. 3.6 V6 only.

Re: 2009 GMC Terrain coming to US!

Awful idea. GMC (The Professional Grade brand) should not be in the compact, car-like SUV game, especially with a Acadia-grilled Saturn Vue.

One of the biggest detriments GM's brand image is their endless rebadging and the extreme amount of overlap that exists between them all. A GMC Vue is something GM really doesn't need.

If GM is going to give all these Opel products to other brands than why even bother with Saturn? Why put all that investment into it's image if you're just going to muddy it by selling the same stuff elsewhere? Why weaken Saturn and GMC's brand images? And who seriously celebrates stuff like this? They might as well give the Astra to Chevrolet too while they're at it.

This is another example of GM repeating the same mistakes that have gotten them where they are today. GMC/Pontiac dealers can be pointing those trading in Torrents at the upcoming Pontiac G8 Sportwagon that will be in the showroom soon.

Re: 2009 GMC Terrain coming to US!

I'm with trishield on this one. GMC shouldn't be in the CUV market. Will the Terrain at least have a different interior from the Vue?

What's the next Nox gonna be like?
