I have always said that one of the reasons why a benz lasts longer is that it is maintained like a benz. If we took a buick, or silverado and gave it the same luxo car treatment, it would last much longer. Case in point, a '99 Escalade that i pampered and sold to an associate. I see it everyday. Drive it once in a while. Still tight, solid, with 190 thousand miles.
How about the Buick Regal that an engineer of mine had. Over 300 thousand miles, after hitting a deer. Body fixed, ran like a top. Smooth and tight.
If the car is reasonably built, its all in the maintenance and care.

Re: One Million Mile Silverado

One problem I have with modern technology is that a 2008 truck going for that long would probably have basically good reliability, with some of the same issues...PLUS replacement of about 50 sensors and CPU's.

Am I wrong about this? In my Monte, every other day some sensor or CPU triggered a check engine light. I guess one could ignore most of these things and then just clear the codes at inspection time although for a while my Monte kept having spooky problems like not starting because a failed door sensor told the theft deterrent computer to deactivate the ignition. Maybe this was all just my bad car luck - can't generalize from one modern car.

That's absolutely true. Including real actual costs of replacement parts, Benzes are horrid.
