One Million Mile Silverado

Quote:
Frank Oresnik is on the verge of making history driving his old standby — the pickup truck he says is about to pass the 1 million mile mark.

Oresnik took the 1991 Chevrolet Silverado to the Oil Ex-Change Quick Lube in Medford on Thursday for what he expects will be its last oil change and tuneup before hitting the magic number.

He said the truck is 1,200 miles from a million, and once he hits the mark he will retire the vehicle.

Re: One Million Mile Silverado

They talk about how much electricity it takes to produce ethanol but they don't compare that to how much electricity it takes to produce gasoline. I'd rather it was done with cleaner electricity too but what really matters is if it is overall cleaner than gasoline. If it is then it is a step in the right direction. I would hope they would at least be building the cleanest coal powered plants possible. It is possible to make them burn fairly clean, of course that costs more too.

Not very much at all, majority of the heat required to refine the gasoline comes from the oil...

Man on verge of putting millionth mile on his 1991 Chevrolet

The Detroit News

MEDFORD, Wis. -- Frank Oresnik is on the verge of making history driving his old standby -- the pickup truck he says is about to pass the 1 million mile mark.

Oresnik took the 1991 Chevrolet Silverado to the Oil Ex-Change Quick
Lube in Medford on Thursday for what he expects will be its last oil change and tuneup before hitting the magic number.

He said the truck is 1,200 miles from a million, and once he hits the mark he will retire the vehicle.

"I feel almost like the longtime NFL player as he goes into his last training camp knowing this is the end," Oresnik said.

He credits proper maintenance and a good measure of luck for allowing the truck to rack up so many miles. He said he's had more than 300 oil changes and tuneups at the Medford business, going in every 3,000 miles.

The truck has had four radiators, three gas tanks, five transmissions and six water pumps, but the engine has never been overhauled, Oresnik said.

Around here, there is a Pennzoil oil change place that had a newspaper clipping framed of a guy who got 2 or 3 oil changes a week because he drove so much. I think it was also a Silverado. GM took the truck and gave him a new one.

I would never be able to keep a vehicle that long! I give the man credit for keeping it, but God that is alot of time in the same seat. I'd love to see some interior pics!!

Why did it need 3 gas tanks? It is only a '91. I could imagine one tank rusting out... why 4 radiators? I could imagine one... trannies, well 200k I guess isn't too bad but I hate automatics. 166 k miles per water pump, okay... 1 mil on the engine going to a quickielube joint, that is impressive. But does it still run or does it leave clouds behind it?

It could be both.

Re: One Million Mile Silverado

1 million miles is amazing, all behind the same steering wheel. I bet that seat has a serious case of butt imprint! Wonder what engine it has?

That would be hard to believe. 3 changes a week at 3000 per change would eaqual to 9000 miles a week! or 1285 a day or 53 miles a hour, and thats not figuring in sleep, eating, or bathroom breaks! That is 85 gallons of fuel a day(figuring 15mpg in a Silverado ). Mabye he was like my Gpa and he changes it every 1000 miles?

I'm curious to what the motor is too. I guess since it didn't say what x-ton it was, could be 4.3L, (305?) 350, 454?
