Re: No V8 For Colorado/Canyon Until 2009

I think it's totally idiotic on GM's part not to include AFM on this truck with fuel prices what they are. IMHO, the Colorado should be offered with either the 5.3L AFM engine or the 4 banger. The 3.7 would not even be needed since the 5.3L with AFM would probably get better mileage. I wonder if it would be possible to add AFM like the full size 5.3L has with just a custom program or is there some extra hardware involved on the AFM engines?

Right! The technology exists so why not make it avalible line wide? Plus, it make a great selling point with gas prices this high instead of just putting a V8 in your truck. If it had AFM technology, you could at least make the argument that it was attempting to save gas

Re: No V8 For Colorado/Canyon Until 2009

They should have put the AFM and a 5 or 6 speed auto. I think they could have gotten 2 or 3 mpg more. The price they are charging for this mid size truck they have plenty of profit. Look for the 2010 to have one of the above mentioned added to the trucks and look for large rebates to dump the 09'S . Seems like Gm only adds one option per year

Anything new?
Anyone bought (or even test driven) one of these yet?

Hey Raydar, there is one in Villa Rica GA at Liberty Chevrolet. Give a test drive and let us know. You can find additional details on it on CARS.com.

I saw the one at Liberty, but I've been way too busy to get back down that way.
IIRC, it's a red extended cab. Had the Z06 looking (ZQ8?) wheels.
I live in Douglasville and work in downtown ATL. Villa Rica is the other direction.

I don't think there are any in Minnesota right now. I've been checking in with local dealers and they seem to think they will get them mid year.

Re: No V8 For Colorado/Canyon Until 2009

I work for David Taylor GMC in Houston Texas. We have a 09 black ZQ8 that just came in so they’re out there. I would suggest just ordering one if you really want one, though. I ordered one 10/31/08 and it hit the dealership 11/13/08. I’m fairly close to Shreveport (250 miles), though, so not much shipping time involved. I got a fire red 09 Canyon 4WD Z71 Crew Cab SLE with tan leather, loaded with every option but a sunroof. Let me just say this truck is awesome! I’m replacing my 04 Colorado Z71 4x4 crew, basically the same truck - but what a difference. I haven’t broken it in yet so I’m still taking it pretty easy but it has gobs of power and torque. It feels a lot tighter too than the 04 did as far as the suspension and even the steering. Overall I am extremely happy. I just gotta say this is one badass truck! YOU CAN HAVE A V8!

Also, FYI, just installed an ipod adapter that plugs in to the factory CD player.
Controls the ipod through the head unit...pretty cool. Here's the link.

Looks like they found a new use for all the V8 badges from the Envoy. But seriously, a beautiful truck. Would love to see one in Imperial Blue. If the V8 had been available in April, I would be driving one of these instead of the Sierra.

Thanks, the pictures don't do it justice. I get a lot of "Wow!" when someone sees it in person.
MSRP is here.
Only have a few hundred miles on it so far. Filled up this morning and avearged 13.65 mpg this past week - all city. Should get better once it's broke in a little more.
