Damn it GM you missed it by that " much. Why must you do this. Its like watching a gold fish aimlessly swim around the food that would keep it alive.

I wouldn't expect near that much HP. I think they are only rating the H3 Alpha in the high 200's, maybe 280's? Had something to do with things being so cramped they had to do some funky exhaust routing, thereby reducing HP significantly. I think you'd see the same issue in the Colorado/Canyon.
I just checked the Hummer website. They claim 300 HP/ 320 TQ. Anemic for a V8 nowadays really when V6's are putting out 300 HP in naturally aspirated form. Once again GM misses the ship.

It's an SUV that is built to be off-road capable, torque is the important factor. None of GM's gas V-6s have the torque of the 5.3L V-8.

Does Nissan or Toyota offer 300 hp V6's in their trucks?

I agree....and I also agree with the sentiments of many others in this thread. The ONLY way this makes sense is if the V8 comes with Active Fuel management (or whatever GM is calling it these days), a 6 speed automatic, AND a refresh of the styling.

You know thats a profound statement there. I think GM is up to something with their small trucks, they are going to do a redesign of the Colorado/Canyon and are holding back stuff now. But still Id rather they put the V8 in now just to make the GM small trucks have an optional edge over their rivals.

Another thing, I really like the Chevy Colorado its a very nice looking truck even looks better when seen up close, but it seems people dont like them based on sales. Why is this? Is it the engine choices? What gives?

Re: No V8 For Colorado/Canyon Until 2009

I rented a Colorado crew with the I-5 and thought the mileage sucked. I can't see the V-8 making much sense. Overall, I really liked the truck. I know the interior is cheapish, but compare it to my 00 Grand Am, it was a step up. My only wish would be for a deeper bed and a rear disc option.

My Dad has the I-5 in his Colorado, and he has complained about mileage from day 1. Before that, he had a '99 Silverado w/ the 5.3, and had no complaints, though his expectations weren't as high being a full size. I have an '04 Silverado w/ the 5.3, and I'm sure my mileage is close to his - despite the weight and size differences in the truck.

The 5.3 is pretty efficient for a V8. Perhaps GM doesn't want to explain why a Colorado w/ the 5.3 has better mileage numbers on the sticker than one with the I5

Re: No V8 For Colorado/Canyon Until 2009

anybody think about CAFE, tax credits and the $39B loss? I'll bet these took part in this. This and the 6.2 in the Silverado should give us a timeframe for the Volt.

The 3.6 in the new Cadillac sits at 304 HP, the 3.5 in the Nissan and Infinity put our 305 to 310. Honda and Toyota are climbing close with their V6's. It's a matter of time before those filter their way into the truck/SUV models. 300 HP out of 325 cubic inches is way behind the times. Yes torque rules the truck world but HP and TQ have a close relationship.

Re: No V8 For Colorado/Canyon Until 2009

amazing, just effing amazing. GM, wake the eff up. The engines are there, just do it already. Geeze, Dodge is the only company I know of that has balls.

And like whats the hold up with the LS2s and six speeds with the halftons? If you are in short supply, then how about run double or triple shifts at each plant and get the fricken ball rolling......................

i wouldt think so since gm has a pecking order on the speed of the cars, and i dont think they would want the colorado to outrun the Silverado.
