Re: No V8 For Colorado/Canyon Until 2009

I picked up the 2008 Canyon brochure at the local dealer and it has a pic of the Canyon with the V-8 and has the 5.3 listed under engine choices.

I am trying to drag out my lease as long as possible waiting for this truck. It better be here soon.

Anymore info on production greatly appreciated.

Re: No V8 For Colorado/Canyon Until 2009

I hope they do indeed put a 5.3L V8 into the truck. I got a 99 S-10 ZR2 that I needs to get me by until the day this Colorado comes out.

Well the "new for 2009" changes are listed on Dealerworld today and the 5.3 is on the list.

Re: No V8 For Colorado/Canyon Until 2009

I heard that the AAM strike may have an effect on production. Any recent sitings out there?

Yes! It's option code LH8 and it looks like it's available in the 1LT and 2LT trim levels for extended cabs and the crew cabs. Regular Cabs and WT trims need not apply. The 5.3L is only available with the 4-speed auto. The 5-speed manual remains only available on 4-cylinder trucks.

It also looks like they're rolling out some new wheels and two new paint colors - "Deep Navy" and "Aqua Blue Metallic".

Thanks for that!
Since the information is flowing - sort of - does it look like there will, once again, be a ZQ8 (or similar) option?

It's just unreal they wont offer a v8 Regcab with a sport package for the Colorado.

Not really, look at the 09 fullsize trucks. You can get the 403hp/6spd auto in the crew cab, the 6.0/6spd auto in the extended cab, and the reg cab? 5.3 4spd is the best option. Ugh. GM seems to have this mentality that you will buy the bigger truck to get the power you want (and thus give them the money they want) which leaves you two choices: either mod your vehicle and toss the warranty out the window or go to another company to get the truck you want. Everyone else will let you order the best drivetrain in ANY cab style.

Makes no sense to me.

I have no use for a full size truck, would never own a crew or extd cab, loved my Ford Lightning but even it was too big. My plans are to do a LS3 swap in my 08 Colorado.

Re: No V8 For Colorado/Canyon Until 2009

Should be a nice truck... but the current V6s are already too pricey... and I assume that all V8 models will be fully loaded, so the price isn't going down any!

How much are the current V6s going for vs. the I4s and I5s?
It must be a lot because I've never even seen one.

Fine but my point was GM always treats reg cabs like second class customers.

I agree,

They would have had the perfect package if they had only offered the S10 xtreme with a V8.

Agreed, or for me the L92/6 sped auto in a reg cab would be excellent. I'll probably just do it myself, its a fairly easy swap, already have the truck. LS3 in a Colorado would be wicked if you can put the power down...
